Some people on here don't understand the meaning of "hatred." I can't even begin to describe the hatred/rivalry between Michigan and Ohio (State). It really goes beyond football. People in Michigan try to avoid Ohio (the state) in general to avoid dealing with "those people," it's pretty bad.

one retarded a-hole that didn't even go to bama poisons a tree and y'all act like it makes the football rivalry more intense

are we talking more intense to the fans or the [payers, cause I dont give a frick how worked up the fans get

they dont play,,

ON THE FIELD

OSU and Michigan
UT and OU

are always games that kids play against kids they played with and against in HS,
anytime you play your buddy,, thats the one you want to win the most

with bama and auburn,, the footprint of recruiting is larger(entire south)
NOT INSLUTING ,,more of a compliment to the SEC where LSU, Georgia and Florid area as likely to land Alabam HS players

Texas recruits Texas,, so does OU

OSU and Michigan recruit the great lakes region

This is a good point. At Alabama or Auburn if a kid from the state goes to the other school they're a traitor to that school.

If an Ohio kid goes to Michigan he's a traitor to the entire state and vice versa.

frick Desmond Howard, Mario Manningham and all the others for life.

You seem like a good dude but you picked the wrong school so we clearly aren't going to get along.

It's gotta be Auburn/Bama. There's nothing else in the state but cfb.

this is a good one. You have to choose, you just have to god dammit!!! If you don't they will both HATE you. Both of the programs have produced some great teams and have their own cool traditions. But it chaps my arse when I hear how each citizen of the state must declare an allegiance.

frick all that shite.

Nobody will ever tell me who to root for.

I went to school at South Alabama so that is where my allegiance lies.

This is stupid.

Alabama v. Auburn is the most intense rivalry in American sports.

SEC fans are so short sighted you even lose the opportunity to give yous conference credit, because youre so focused on naming an SEC schools as best or worst at everything

I don't care about "SEC SEC SEC" in this instance. I have seen the Yankees/Sox, Steelers/Ravens, OU/UT, etc etc etc. I still think nothing really compares to Bama and Auburn.

Alabama vs. Auburn - 76 meetings.

there was actually a large gap between meetings. They didn't play from 1907-1948. I'm not surprised that the die hard fans from either school failed to call you out on this. I think there is a neat story behind all of that but I could be wrong.

Did these other rivalries have their own documentary on ESPN?

There have been dozens of OSU/MU docs and movies made.

History Lesson: Toledo War - Michigan vs. Ohio State
quote:

This rivalry goes back to the 1830s, when the territory of Michigan and the state of Ohio went to war over the area of Toledo.

The Toledo War, as most people call it, began in 1835 with a dispute over who controlled the land called the Toledo Strip, which contained the Port of Toledo. Ohio claimed it for themselves, while Michigan, which was beginning the process to become a state, said that it had a claim on the land.

When Michigan sought statehood in the early 1830s, it’s pitch included the disputed zone it considered within its boundaries. Ohio’s Congressional delegation responded by halting Michigan’s admission to the Union.

Soon the argument got so heated that the two sides sent their militias to Toledo to intimidate the other. A few battles broke out, including one where the two sides fired at each other from across the Maumee River, with Michigan troops on the north bank and Ohio soldiers on the south. One man, a Michigan Sheriff’s Deputy, was killed in the conflict when he was stabbed in the back by an Ohioan during a bar fight in the city.

Eventually the fighting and arguing got so bad that President Andrew Jackson and the federal government had to intervene. After some more arguing, a compromise was finally reached. Ohio would get control of Toledo, while the federal government gave Michigan the Upper Peninsula, which was then part of the Wisconsin territory. Michigan was also allowed to become a state of the union, which it did in 1837.

In the end, while Ohio won the Toledo area, Michigan walked away with the mineral and lumber rich Upper Peninsula, which became a major source of money for the state.

While Michigan and Ohio would continue to argue over borders over the next century, especially with the islands in Lake Erie, they would never again go to war with each other. At least not with guns. Bring in the football teams of the two states’ greatest universities.

The emotions and tensions that Michigan and Ohio felt 175 years ago can still be felt on the last day of the college football season, when the Buckeyes and the Wolverines take the field.

In 2000, ESPN ranked the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry as the "Greatest North American Sports Rivalry."

"No, goddammit! We do NOT pull in and fill up. And I'll tell you exactly why we don't. It's because I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan! We'll coast and PUSH this goddam car to the Ohio line before I give this state a nickel of my money!" - Woody Hayes

That's one of the biggest reasons I laugh when people argue against the Mich/OSU rivalry. More than 95% don't know shite about it.

Exactly. We don't just hate each other's football team or university, we hate the state and its people.
