I agree with you... but the MAIN issue that got us here was coaches salaries... you can't pay someone millions of dollars and want the people responsible for him making millions of dollars to be be ok without getting any financial reward... I know most would counter with "but they get a free education" but is it really free... or does it really matter

Speak for yourself. I’d rather watch that than a meaningless bowl games featuring 2 teams that really have no interest in being there.

You can't choose a real champion that way.

That wasn’t the point of the bowl system, or college football as a whole. The point was competition for competition’s sake, not to crown a single champion.

ETA: This is a classic case of “be careful what you wish for.” In a rush to be more like every other sport, college football has destroyed its soul and alienated a lot of its core fans. The networks’ bet is that they’ll gain enough casual fans to make up for that loss and more, and they might, but the product has been hollowed out either way.

This … the reality, and I know this is going to piss people off but it is what it is, is that the people who are running all sports these days don’t care 6.5 cacas about the old school core fans. Unless you are 18 to 49 and in a diverse demographic, they don’t care if you watch their product and it doesn’t matter how much money you have to spend.

Not if they fix the transfer issue and get rid of bowl games no one cares about .

Well a 12 team playoff will fix it.

No it won’t.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say he was being sarcastic.

Until the usual suspects are competing in the semi-finals. Then everyone will be bitching about how this is a down season, the system favors the blue bloods/media darlings, and all that other shite.

This or you have to wait 3 years before being eligible for the portal, in which case the transfer is immediate.

I can’t wait for this

People are going to be excited about the 12 team playoff until they see their teams get their shite pushed in by Alabama and Georgia every single year.

This.

It was never about the national championship.

It was about regional contests and rivals.

That is all screwed up now.

It is why I would support going back to club sports while having a minor league for the NFL.

Re-localize the sports.

That isn’t the problem with football, honestly.

The entire atmosphere of football has changed into an overly corporatized mockery of what it used to be.

I tend to agree. To play devil’s advocate, at least they get to actually see it and not just have it assumed. I think there will be enough upsets in the 12 team playoff to keep it interesting.

With great caution I say that it can’t really get any worse than it is now.

Seeing it isn’t going to help. Ask TCU fans about their title hopes these days.

The media would then vote for who they thought the best team in college football was for that calendar year but that wasn't a team's ultimate goal. That all changed with the advent of ESPN and 24/7 sports coverage.

This is so true and something that lots of cfb fans don't seem to understand. That's why I chuckle when people say things like schembechler never won a national title. That was never his goal. The goal was to beat Ohio State and win the big 10. That's it

Wasn't the playoff put in place because Oklahoma State (a non-media darling) got left out of the BCS National Championship Game in lieu of Alabama (a media darling)?

Lololol you call me intellectually dishonest, but you state this.

ESPN literally dropped the slogan “Every Game Counts” the day after Bama lost the Game of the Century.

We’ve changed the narrative what, four times now since 2011 to help a media darling get in.

Now we have a playoff and again, the narrative changes after someone had the audacity to go undefeated when a media darling, once again, couldn’t.

Lol but I’m the dishonest one. You inbreds are hilarious.

I'm sure it was fun for TCU fans watching their team get absolutely manhandled by 58 points in the CFP NCG last year.

Maybe in the first round or two. However, as these "Cinderella" teams start getting into the deeper rounds they will be facing off against teams who are two and three deep with NFL-level talent. At that point, teams that recruit the best are going to be the best situated to make a run.

The people in charge are trying to copy the NASCAR model, and we all see how that worked.
