price to play is only gonna go up over time and at some point the price per fan is gonna keep people out of the stadium long time season ticket holder and I'm not far from the tipping point a lot easier to stay home and watch on tv
This is basically where I am now.

Just take 50% of the head coach’s salary and split it amongst the players.
Best idea I’ve heard in a while.

Regular fans priced out.
You're left with folks like me. Older, can afford it but don't give a crap. I'm not a great fan.
Might be necessary but its killing the product.

The NFL has been getting a free ride with college football. The NFL is laughing at college football fans.

non-revenue sports will be discontinued.
Not necessarily. There are Title IX implications with this.
No matter how much money is lost, they're legally required to keep some sports so they stay compliant.

If this is being called revenue sharing and the fans are paying 10% towards it, are we saying that the fans are sharing their revenue with the players? I thought it was the schools that were supposed to be sharing revenue.

Easiest fans to screw over. Real life connections to the university.

Fans ahpuld also share in rhe revenue since the home crowd actually often impacts rhe perfoemance of rhe road team by being loud.

College Football as we knew it is done. With NIL, pay for play, and unrestricted transfers, it’s just the minor leagues. Don’t act like many of these guys are invested in the university, attending classes, and such.
I would immediately cancel season tickets if I were a fan.

I know this thread has been played out but this is a you and me problem. In capitalism, you have the freedom to spend your money where you would like. There’s no reason you have to continue watching or supporting college football. And why would we if it’s not the same product we attached to years ago?
To me, it’s getting to the point where I’m sitting on the sidelines paying for rich people to have fun on a yacht. Best amenities, great food and service, luxuries all around, high salaries and they’re asking me to throw in some money so the millionaires can keep having fun.
Just say no, y’all. Go do something else if this really bothers you.

Of course.
But I liked pudding pops. I’d pay for pudding pops. But there are no puffing pops anymore. So, as a consumer, I’m disappointed.
That’s the issue here. The consumer isn’t getting what it wants. It’s like watching a sci-fi movie. It’s the suspension of disbelief. Fans pretend it’s the same as it used to be. And that will continue until it’s so far gone that people naturally won’t care.

I firmly believe the players should get paid in some form
And no, they have not been basically modern day slaves this whole time as many clueless people seem to believe. (This last sentence is not directed at the poster that I'm responding to.)

I should've been more clear when I said "should be paid in some form". I think they should get compensated for jersey sales, NIL (for what it was actually intended), etc.
The reason people have been pissed for so long is because they could not actually hold a job like a normal student who was receiving TOPS or some other scholarship and not paying for school, and the school is making millions off of them. So they have no way to make extra money.
People refer to it as modern day slavery because the vast majority of D1 athletes (at least the sports that people care about) are black. Indentured servitude is probably a more apt term to use but doesn't make the previous situation any better.

I agree women’s sports will see funding cuts. At least to whatever extent possible under Title IX - I think it’s still too early to assume that it only requires equal scholarships. Regardless, I would expect funding cuts for sure.
But non-revenue men’s sports will straight up get cancelled.
If there are fewer shcolarships for men than women, that wouldn't be compliant under Title IX. Title IX applies to both sexes equally. If cuts are made, they will be done equally for mens and womens sports. So I'd expect to see non revenue mens and womens sports cut.

I addressed this right after the part you quoted.
There are two things missing here:
1. All women’s sports are non-revenue. Despite the recent popularity increase of WBB, it still isn’t profitable. At least at LSU as of the last financial report.. although the waters are a bit muddy there because of how LSU reports SEC distributions and media rights, to be fair.
2. Scholarship limits are changing. Between football, baseball, and MBB, we will have 44.3 additional men’s scholarships available.
Here’s a chart mdomingue posted on the rant a while back:
Even if LSU cancelled men’s CC, golf, swim, tennis, and track, the total number of men’s scholarships available would still increase. If LSU wants to use all of those scholarships, it’s going to lessen the impact on women’s sports. Some will likely get shut down but I don’t think it’ll be as big of an impact.

This is NOT what NIL is or should be.
NIL is meant for somebody like Livy Dunn. Nobody gives a shite that she’s on the LSU gymnastic team. She is making NIL money irrespective of her choice of college. Further, LSU wasn’t paying a dime to Livvy Dunne to be on the gymnastics team.
School should not be involved in the NIL process in any way, shape, meaning, or form.
