I actually wouldn’t be surprised to see Nick Saban decide to make this an out of the gate statement game and not let his foot off the gas till real late. Just to say “Yeah, we lost our QB, RB, top CB and top two WRs, but we’re still going to roll all of you”.

If he decides on that, I’d predict it being very ugly for Miami.

Absolutely. The choice is really his. On paper it's a blowout.

I disagree with this . If King is fully healthy they could keep it close. Saban hates QB’s like King.

Anyone else think Georgia beats Clemson? I don't think it will be particularly close, even.

I'm really just not sure. UGA is so trendy every year I fele like the last decade or so. Their last game they were outplayed by Cincy at times. I know bowl games are kind of a weird subset.

Clemson may have been figured out a bit the last 2 years. In their last 3 playoff games they've given up like 1500 yards or so. They may have taken a look in the mirror this offseason and fixed those issues a bit.

Lots of talent on the field for sure and a game you want to be at home on the couch eating a pizza or wings for

Maybe it's just a gut feeling, but Clemson seems like it's overdue for a good old fashioned arse-kicking.

Their schedule continues to amaze. They don't play either of the only other 2 ranked ACC teams this year.

Georgia may not score enough with that offense to blow 'em out, but Clemson ain't gonna score much on that D.

i went to barnes and noble and bought a cfb preview magazine last night to start doing my research. the lindy's only does southeast region now and not full 120 teams. found a more random one that is clearly for gamblers.

nevada and UT San Antonio are gonna be my teams this year i just know it. nevada is loaded with returning players and experience.

While normally not advised, I think I’d have to consider taking Bama and giving Miami the 18.5 points. I don’t think Miami is that good to not get utterly steamrolled by Alabama.

Only thought it maybe Saban puts the 3rd string defense in and allows Miami a cheap TD or two late.

I think Bama rolls like they usually do in these openers. Average margin of victory for their past 10 season openers is 40-12. Playing devil's advocate with some points to think about:

- Miami is #3 in returning production. Bama is #110. That may not matter over the course of the season with elite talent like Bama has but for game 1 that may contribute to keeping things within the number. Maybe a sloppy start for the Bama offense?

- D'Erig King has played QB at the collegiate level for 45 games. Bryce Young, talented no doubt, has started zero games and attempted only 22 passes.

- Key to Miami keeping this respectable is converting first downs. On paper this Bama defense looks like it's ready to return to form. If Miami gets bogged down with punt after punt then Bama will eventually start wearing the Canes defense down and the inexperience on offense won't matter much in the end.

I could almost convince myself to take the Canes and the points but the UNC game from last season is burned in to my brain. Miami couldn't stop the run. Gave up 554 rushing yards. Bama could go into conservative mode and just start cranking pre-Kiffin style.

This is interesting considering the Illini smoked the Huskers to the tune of 41-23 in Lincoln last year. Might have to take the points here. Will be riding the Illini +6.5 to cover at home
