Strong seems like the kind of guy smart enough to check on that before making that kind of statement.

You would think so, but it kind of sounds like an NCAA violation. I'm not sure. Maybe there is an exception for this kind of benefit.

I know Auburn/Gus tried to get all the players back into the dorms. But what's the rule on this? can they force players to live on campus? I know they are not allowed to have exclusive athletic dorms anymore.

Those new dorms we built by the Athletic Complex were built to room 49% athletes and 51% regular students. So technically it's not an athletic dorm. Most of our athletes stay in that dorm.

Pretty sure he did. Didn't Strong or the AD stop them from signing autographs at some kind of fan function because of fear of $ being exchanged? Fans weren't happy.

Think he ran a very clean program and players knew not to screw around.

. It usually takes some time for that type of mentality to pay dividends.

yup. what happens is the players hear him but don't really believe him. that is normal human behavior that any successful manager of people will agree with. what he will have to do is act and back up what he has said. it will shock and piss off the "entitled" players but will be welcomed by their back ups and other disciplined players; they know why they've been underachieving. nick saban did it and he found out who really wants to play and who will pay the price for excellence. i expect his year one to be meh with success happening in year two. some of these backups i alluded to are as good as the starters anyway, just inexperienced.

First off, not sure if this whole thing is true or not. If it is, parents will love it, but you better be an incredible recruiting staff to sell all the above to 17-18 year olds. It all looks good and sounds good in theory, in practice, they could end up with a ton of Case McCoy & Jaxon Shipley type kids again. The Vince Young's of the world at age 17-18 aren't going to be running to sign up for the above.

No, but they can withdraw scholarships and dismiss players from the team if they decide they don't want to comply.

They can also end housing stipends for off campus living. If you want to live off campus as an athlete they might have to pay for it 100%. Of course they have to have a source of income, etc... that is proven and not from a booster.

Probably a small percentage of scholarship players would actually do the off campus thing because of the money.

There has to be some exception because almost every team nowadays has players that are married and some have kids. Evans (A&M) has 2 kids. Bottom line is if you are going to live off campus with Strong you better have a compelling reason to do so.

That's going to be useful in recruiting Texas country boys. Also probably wouldn't withstand a court challenge.

I am excited about this move. Between his on-campus requirement and his fairly boring offensive hires I feel pretty good about Sumlin's chances recruiting against this regime in Austin. Middle aged white fans might fap to the idea of tough love, but these modern recruits want two things: special treatment and a path to the NFL.

At the very least they aren't going to flip our recruits this year.

Oh and MSB.

Yeah, that's what people said about the Ed O'bannon deal a few years ago too.

Let him yank some Texas country kid's scholly for showing off his rifle collection and see how long it takes for daddy's lawyer to have a conversation about government infringement on constitutionally protected rights.

I'm thinking the "no guns" thing is towards the "hood" "inner city" type players. Don't want them packing handguns being tough guys, thugs.

Much like at Alabama and they seem to recruit pretty well. If you want to play at Texas bad enough, you'll accept it...which, by the way, is an excellent indication of a kid's level of commitment. Once they become elite again, it'll be no problem.
