Cignetti at Big 10 Media Days

Curt Cignetti: "We don't run a hype machine up here in the Midwest. We believe everything is earned, not given. And when we fall short, we say, 'We fell short.' We don't cry a river, whine, and complain. That's why we're the best."
Tenets of stoicism and perseverance.
This is how a winner speaks.

I'd love to hear Lane say something like that. He went to high school in Minnesota where his dad was coach of the Vikings.

This season without Mendoza is gonna be fascinating.

He’s speaking directly to Lane, Sark, and all the other baby back SEC coaches who cry non stop

Didn't he previously say "Google Me"

Can't help but really like the guy. He talks the talk and walks the walk.

Honestly, Ryan Day makes way more excuses than Kirby Smart. I think it has a lot to do with what school you're at and how much the media platforms you. I don't recall ESPN giving Lloyd Carr a platform to campaign for a rematch in 2006.

I don’t like him. Always looking for the camera. Always subtly patting himself on the back. Wait until things (inevitably) go south and see if his tune doesn’t change.

I guess he doesn't remember Harbaugh and Michigan players complaining about how "unfair" the humidity was in their playoff loss to UGA.

Real coaches don’t pay players

And they also rape and molest athletes of both sexes.

“go south and see and see if his tune doesn’t change”.
Really? Cignetti has coached at IUP, Elon, James Madison, and Indiana as a head coach. He has been about as far south as any coach can go and he has a National Title.
If you believe Cignetti is scared about going 8-4 or 7-5 then you simply don’t get it. He’s at freaking Indiana. Meanwhile the SEC has 1 coach who has won a Natty and you act like your conference is beyond reproach. It’s just comical.

Like the one he had his first year when his roster was full of 1AA players and still went 11-1?

How is Ryan Day coming up in a Cignetti presser thread?
And whenever OSU loses, Day always says he didn't do enough to get the job done as the HC

Never implied that he was scared. I realize he’s at Indiana. Thus the parenthetical “inevitably” comment.
I never mentioned any conference, so I don’t know where this “your conference” stuff is coming from. I’m an LSU fan, but I’m certainly not an SEC homer. For example, watching Bama come back to earth has given me great joy.
Cignetti just rubs me the wrong way. I’m not trying to convince anyone, I was just stating my opinion.

Against a schedule of beta males and got cucked by the only 2 halfway decent teams he played.

Let’s see what buddy does this year when his teams average age isn’t almost 25.

Meh
Lots of coaches talk like this. It just sounds more profound coming from the defending national champion.

This quote would also make more sense coming off a disappointing season. Of course he’s not going to be complaining or making excuses right now.
