Hasn't Peterson always been extremely picky with jobs due to the some medical condition his kid has or something?

He also turned down ultra high pressure jobs like USC to go to Washington, where expectations are tame.

I cannot see him going to bumfrick Nebraska where everyone will think he is the program savior.

How is Corvallis different from Eugene?

I've been to both. One is Starkville, one is Athens but with Nike.

ETA:

Size and amenity wise is what I meant. Athens is the GOAT college party town, so not saying Eugene is that. It's just WAYYY nicer and has WAYYY more money than Corvallis and is twice the size.

It’s great for the sport to have Nebraska as a contender.

Why?

There are those that believe college football would be better if "traditional" powers were still powers. My speculation is that is mostly nostalgia driven.

Nike has certainly powered Oregon's sports programs.

However, Athens to Starkville is a pretty good comparison from the SEC towns you mention in terms of the overall demographics.

It's not just luck that Nike is in Eugene and not Corvallis.

Probably exactly what Nebraska needs
Would be the safest hire they could make
He was a force at Boise and he inherited a situation at Washington not all that different than what Nebraska is facing

They crashed and burned with an up and comer like Frost who was Cornhusker all the way

I don't think Leopold has enough skins on the wall right now

Petersen would be a fit in that area of the country and will recruit well

Yeah it doesn’t make any sense, it’s the usual coaching board rumor cycle.

Up next will be Jon gruden

Corvallis is a cow-town that just happens to have an Ag College. Corvallis is great if you want to travel back in time and get a soda float at the local Pharmacy. I mean, Riley rode a bike to work. He was more rube than Andy Griffith. You can literally travel back to the 50s by visiting Corvallis.

They should hire Malzahn. Familiar with the Texas and the Southeast in general. Solid recruiter. Was able to beat Alabama. Only 56.

i disagree. won everywhere he has been.

i also like the idea of monken. i think he would do very well at nebraska similar to paul johnson's peak at GT. problem is...once people catch up to the option or if he retires or you just change coaches...you have a big time rebuild.

nebraska can get players though. with NIL, their resources....nebraska should be top 15 in recruiting every year. just have to put the budget to it. think UGA budget but bigger due to mainly out of state kids. You have to recruit Cali, Texas, Zona hard. go after the 3 star kids in florida that are being overlooked etc. have to have a coach that pays attention to deatils too.

btw if they win out other than michigan...dont be surprised if Mickey gets full time gig. hell maybe even if they win 3/5 and get to 500.

Leipold's resume as a head coach is better than Frost's was.

That’s funny. I think Peterson is a much better coach than Malzahn; yet, I think Malzahn would have more success at Nebraska than Peterson.

Everyone keeps saying Nebraska needs to follow the Iowa or Wisconsin model. Nebraska is at the point they need someone creative and innovative to have success there. Someone who can put up points and simply outscore the Big Ten competition.

I think Malzahn May actually be a decent fit. I think he could at least get them 8-10 wins a year with his offense.

He got tired at Udub pretty quick and Nebraska will be a serious rebuild.

Does he have the energy?

Corvallis is a great town. Nike money and OSU doesn't have the level of interest in sports as Oregon or the south. You'll find that at many places in the PAC-12.

Eugene/Springfield area is over 200k.

The last time I went to Corvallis I don't remember going back in time but I'm not in your head.
