If Biggio had the exact same numbers but played for a media darling, he's in on the first ballot.

But he didn't have the exact same numbers....

Bingo what? Biggio doesn't have the same numbers as Jeter, he has a lower career average, on base percentage, slugging, and OPS....

He's saying if Biggio put up his exact same numbers in another select market, i.e., NY.

he may not still be a first ballot.... you are trying to diminish what Jeter has done, when Jeter has better numbers....

I mean the numbers didn't hurt Tony Gywnn ho played in a small marker in San Diego. Didn't hurt Larkin who didn't play in a select market...

and Biggio didn't? He played with Bagell, Caminiti, Derek Bell, Berkman, etc plus studies have shown that line up "protection" is overrated and not really a thing....

Biggio played in really good lineups most of the time, Jeter played in GREAT lineups every single year. Big difference in ball parks too.

Also if you honestly think that hitting with men on base, vs larger pitch counts, and more relief pitchers doesn't help your hitting numbers then I don't know what to tell you

Yeah but you've already been proven an idiot, if you are arguing for Biggio the rest might as well give up since they know it is pointless

Stop it. Gwynn is a better player than Biggio(and Jeter) and Cincy is far far far greater baseball market than Houston

Musial, Ruth, Williams, Gehrig and Chipper Jones are the only players in Major League history to record at least 2,500 hits, 1,500 walks, 1,500 runs, 500 doubles, 450 home runs and 1,500 RBIs while hitting .300 with a .400 on-base percentage and .500 slugging percentage.

When you are on an elite list such as that there is nothing overrated about you. He hit third for the most consistently good team in baseball his entire career. The guy hit 300 from both sides of the plate for God sake. You understand how hard that is? That is two totally different swings and he mastered both of them.

Very well said. Thank you for getting this thread back on track about Larry and not furthering the pissing contest about other players not named Chipper Jones.

The ONLY way Chipper Jones is ever considered overrated when discussing his place in baseball royalty is if he is compared to a guy like Tony Gwynn for being a perfect role model off the field. Chipper had his faults off the field, but to say his numbers do not speak for themselves and is not a first ballot HOF indicted is completely ludicrous. Every New York Met fan between 96 and 2006 would venture to say he single handedly ripped their hearts out and are their kids more times than not.

Chipper is also an excellent bow hunter, fwiw.

When he was healthy he was dangerous as frick.

When he wasn't he was not very good at all, he was still fairly effective when he retired.

There are certain milestones that gets players in. 400 HR's is typically one of them. Murphy had 398....and a career .265 average that will make it very hard for him to get in. It took Andre Dawson 9 years to get in with 438 HRs a .279 average, 314 SBs and 8 Gold Glover awards.
