I hope they do become competitive. Good for them.
The guy thinking three rookies will be called up and all of a sudden this team is an annual world series contender...there are no words.

well that guy's logic is no worse than your
when trying to talk about a 6-10 year window.
Then why do you keep using them?

It's not just those three. It's those three plus the two All-Stars on the team already, Rizzo and Castro, and then Alcantara who's already called up.
It's not that they're prospects...they're three of the best prospects in all of baseball. And those three aren't even counting Addison Russell.
They won't win this year. They may creep up in wins next year. But 2016 is when the Cubs should start to be taken seriously and that's when the window opens.
I'm sorry, I also forgot Jake Arrieta.

I don't expect you to come back to the MSB and admit you were wrong circa 2016.

Rusney Castillo doing a work out for the cubs today at Wrigley.
Guess cubs are serious about him.

Cubs claimed Jacob Turner off waivers from the Marlins.* I love this.
*Evidence is soft right now, though.

well there was the comment that the rockies wouldn't and now he's been claimed. You gotta think its the cubs.
Nate DFA-ed.
Does turner have to go back on the 40 man, and 25 man, or do we as the claiming team get some sort of grace period prior to putting him on the 40 man, and do we have to put him on the 25 man?
ETA: found it...yes, out of options.
woof...jim bowden reporting it...are we sure he didn't just rip off a fake twitter account?

It's happening too fast!
Fujikawa activated from the 60-day DL.
They have to trade, right? And I think Turner goes on the 40 man, but not necessarily the MLB roster.
Edit: It looks like Rosenthal is saying Turner is off the 40-man because he was DFA'd.

Is that how it works out for the Cubs, though? Because I thought the explanation was that because Turner was on the 25-man and had no options for the Marlins he had to be DFA'd. And the Marlins decided to do it because they're in a pennant race and just didn't want to carry him any longer.
Edit: Again, I'm wrong...perpetually wrong. But, I do like to learn. The Cubs apparently have to carry Turner on the MLB roster until the end of the season. Then he gets to be sent down next year, if they want to do that. *I think*

I think if they tried to do that they'd have to DFA him and go through the same process used to pick him up.

quote:
If a player is placed on waivers, any team may “claim” him. If more than one team claims the player from waivers, only one team’s claim actually goes through. Priority is given to teams in the player’s league, with the team with the worst record getting highest priority. If no team in the player’s own league claims him, then priority goes to the other league, again, in reverse order of the standings. (So, for Cubs players, the Rockies will have the first priority, then the Diamondbacks, Phillies, Padres, and so on up the standings until you reach the Dodgers, and then it flips over to the bottom of the American League pile.)
So, if a team waives a player, and another team claims the player off waivers (and its claim is either the only claim or is the highest priority claim as described above), the player’s current team has three options:
(1) It can allow the claiming team to assume the player’s entire contract, who then places him on its 25-man roster; or
(2) It can trade the player to the claiming team within two business days of the claim; or
(3) It can cancel the waiver by pulling the player back.
If the player is not claimed by any team within 47 hours (business days only), the player is said to have “cleared waivers.” That player is then free to be traded to any team, released, or assigned to a minor league team (subject to various collectively-bargained-for rights about refusing assignments).
Credit to Bleacher Nation.

Yes, Turner is out of options, he has to be on the big league club. I can't believe he wasn't claimed by the Rockies.

If you actually comprehended what you read you'd know that is not what I said at all.
Like P and Vick said, its the over all approach that our front office has taken in the rebuilding process is finally paying dividends, and those dividends culminate with the Cubs being in a position to compete for the post season and thereby the World Series for the foreseeable future.
As an Astros fan I can see how these concepts would be totally alien to you.

yea, that's a head scratcher.
if every thing falls right (ie bosio can work magic with one or all of them), back end of the rotation is shaping up quite nicely next year without dourbont, strailey and now turner. Fingers crossed. To me that screams go get lester in the offseason and call it a rotation.

Hendricks hasn't shown any reason not to give him a shot next season, and also hasn't shown that he would be a bullpen asset, as I prefer guys that have high strike out numbers.

yea add him too for that list of who could fill the back end. Makes that second arm this off season from FA feel less mandatory and more of a luxury.
