We should bring up bums to pitch at Coors, so there's no side effects in the next start.

Very happy we DFA'd Nate... cocksucker refused an autograph request by my daughter a couple of months ago in ATL.
I really wanted to say, "Nate you suck and should be happy that someone asked for your autograph."

The Cubs also claimed Cole Hamels off waivers. Interesting.

I was kind of hoping this wouldn't make it here as there is almost 0 chance he's traded. I think it'd unnecessary confirmation the cubs have money too.

It means nothing. Almost everyone is put on waivers. They will pull him back.
Obviously, I would love for the Phillies to let the Cubs take over the contract, but there is a better chance that the Cards actually having the best fans in baseball than the Phillies letting Hamels walk.

Hah. But they applauded themselves for giving a mediocre pitcher a standing ovation last night. And they're happy to tell you about how great they are for doing that.

Kind of means the Cubs have money and were willing to take on the contract to improve the team for 2015. If anything, the Phils have a team to approach first in the offseason.

Yea. But we knew that. Tanaka hoyers repeated comments the leak that the cubs have had discussions about jon lester and their desire to sign him. Sure it says the cubs are interested (sorta) in trading for hammels but I would suspect we'd be interested in trading for just about any front end pitcher. Just feels like a non story that only serves to give hope of getting him when that hope doesn't really exist.

We knew they had money. They were interested in Tanaka. The Cubs had a big payroll in recent years. I know a lot has changed with ownership, potential revenue streams, renovations, etc., but the Cubs are well off.
I really want to sign an ace or two in 2015 and 2016. Not sure who I want yet. Either Price or Hamels would be nasty as an ace. Lester would be a strong signing.

Lester, IMO, would be a huge mistake unless we can sign him for 5 years or less. The guy will be 31 by the time next season starts and is going to be asking for 7 years... no thanks.

I could definitely see Lester ending up in Chicago next season.

While good points. At some poin t the cubs are going to have to overpay in either years or cost per year. I'm good with it being lester if it has to be.
Posted on 8/7/14 at 9:32 am to piggidyphish
I don't mind overpaying as long as the contract is short. I don't want a 37 y/o #5 starter making $20M+ and has 10/5 rights.

.@howardeskin: Phillies don't want to move Hamels. Offer would have to blow them away in order to move Cole.

It would be cool if that guy's name was Howard E. Skin. But I'm guessing it's Howard Eskin.
