So now he's batting .167 with a .667 slugging percentage?
He's the new Dave Kingman!

There is so much bat movement. Holy crap, Javi.

his lineout in the middle innings was impressive for an out. absolutely roped one the other way that took the RF back to the track. with any lift it would've been way gone.

Jesus this thread is pathetic. 0-5 with three strikeouts then hits a homer, everyone shits themselves.
The fricking guy that said next year starts a 6-10 year perennial world series contender

I'm just going to leave this here. I think it's significant that Olt is hitting well in AAA because of two reasons:
1. He hasn't in his career.
2. He's hitting pitches that he just wasn't swinging at when with the Cubs. He was taking hittable strikes way too often, at least that's how I saw it.
I don't know if Olt will be a productive member of the Cubs. I do believe the Cubs wanted him in the Garza trade because they believed he could. I don't think the Cubs front office is going to give up on a 25 year old power hitting, slick fielding 3B no matter how much depth they have at the position.
What does it mean? It just means he has to show that he can hit well. He is still striking out way more than he walks, and that needs to improve. He's not Kris Bryant and he can't get away with rates like that. (That's not an indictment on Bryant, it just means that though Bryant does K, he also hits above .330 and slugs like nobody's business).
Speaking of rates, Jorge Soler's walk rate is north of 15% (!!!) this year. Holy shite. This kid is next.

everyone shite themselves on Monday when it was announced he was called up, because that's the kidn of excitement that's in the cubs farm system. So if you're going to be an arse, at least be a factual arse.

I do, just for laughs, wish the cubs had done the silent treatment to him after the home run.

To be fair, the Cubs have gone through a massive paradigm shift with how the organization is built in the farm system on up through Chicago. It's just now starting to come to pass at the big league level with the first wave of guys born from the new way of doing things.
So, yeah...it's a little exciting. Because the Cubs are doing things the way the Braves and Rays do things. The way the A's and Rex Sox do things. And those franchises, save for maybe the Rays (and that's debatable), have always been placing out of the cellars of their divisions in recent memory.
And, I'll even add, Javi Baez is the one prospect out of the top four of five in this system that scares me the most when it comes to his floor. Him hitting a HR was romantic. Sure. But what gets me pumped is if he starts to learn how pitchers pitch him and how he adjusts to the highest level.
So, thanks for your input fella.

That one of the five worst teams in baseball starts a ten year perennial world series contention run next year?
No. It isn't true at all. Sorry

I am surprised the Fukudome narrative has not created yet.
First game, hit a massive homer, fans adore him, and then he fizzles out.
Of course, the potential of the two is quite different.

You mean exactly what the Red Sox did the last decade? You are aware that Theo Epstein was in Boston before he came here.

His organization is too busy failing to sign draft picks and watching the guy picked over Kris Bryant have a double digit ERA.

next year might be ambitious, however what he's talking about is a window of competitiveness, that most certainly will be open by 2016.
Now I'm sure you don't care enough for me to explain the farm, the increased revenue streams, the waves at which prospects will reach the majors, the success of using first round picks, the pending tv deals, the plans for FA. You probably also see "window of competitiveness" and to support your agenda you read that as world series favorites as opposed to being set in a good position to make the post season, at which point it's kind of crap shoot anyway.
I'm happy to explain these things to you, but I get the feeling you're looking backwards for your justification, not forwards.
