I think the Caps held the edge in play in the 1st, but lost it during the penalty parade of the 2nd. They played even late in the 2nd, but the Rangers seized it back with that huge goal to start the 3rd. The Caps were +24 on corsi, which is a huge, huge edge, but kind of misleading because Corsi only counts even strength and that ignores the Rangers massive power play edge in the game. Only one official PP goal, but it was really two as one was cored one second after the penalty expired.
But there's so much wrong with this call:
What gets me is not just that the Rangers had nine men on the ice (I counted 8 live, but this is a wider angle) and the Caps got whistled for too many men. What gets me is the reasoning that Caps extra man influenced the play. Look who's carrying the puck? The Rangers! They are advancing the puck into the Caps zone, and a Caps player knocks it way. The Rangers made the first play on the puck with too many men. It was a ridiculous call.

And the only problems I had with last night's game were the penalties. That'll get fixed.

Now you know how Rangers fans feel about:
1) The no-goal that even Holtby thought went in.
2) The no-call on the delay of game for the Caps in game 2.
3) The call for delay of game on McDonagh given the no-call in game 2.
4) How many times are Ovechkin and Chimera going to skate full speed at Henrik after he's trapped the puck only to stop and make minimal contact?
5) Ovechkin's diving antics at the end of the game last night. Without him going down THREE STRIDES after getting tapped on the chin. Such a cheap move.
Point is, the Caps have gotten more calls than the Rangers this series. Looking forward to game 4. By bitching about a too many men on the ice you're starting to sound like a pens fan.

James Neal back tonight.
Orpik likely as well.
Be the first time we've been fully healthy since the trades.

The pens have no room to complained about too many men on the ice.

Holtby thought he had it in his blocker hand. why? Because he had it in his blocker hand. The replay was pretty clear.

2) The no-call on the delay of game for the Caps in game 2.
It was borderline, but at least there was a plausible explanation for it. Alzner took a one-handed swing at the puck and it deflected off, so it was not "deliberately shot or batted". Deflections result in no delay of game, and that was the call on the ice.

Didn't the Rangers get a delay of game call on Olesky in OT? Yup. they did.

Welcome to the playoffs. The last time Chimera did it, the puck was in air. Play to the whistle.

He got hit in the face with a stick, and reacted immediately. Are we now denying he got hit in the face with a stick? Earlier in the game, Mojo got punched in the face in front of the ref and there was no call. A key call in Game 2 was the refs not calling a trip on Ribiero, who was all alone against the goalie.
the Rangers have had a PP edge in every game, despite the Caps having a huge edge in possession. I don't think the Caps lost because of the delay of game, but frankly, it puts the lie to Rangers bitching about the refs. Shut up. You're winning on the tale of the officiating. You can't get every single call, though it's been pretty darn close.

no, they haven't Caps have come nowhere near the calls the Rangers have gotten. Rangers have a huge PP edge, yet the Caps have had the puck more. They are getting more calls against the run of play. I don't think the refs have been a huge factor, but they are favoring the Rangers, because that's what the scoresheet says. I can't believe the Rags are getting a majority of the calls yet are still bitching about refs favoring the Caps. It's crazy.

Which is exactly why I post, just for you to have to see it.
That and so I can see stare at it longer.

Hey, I like hockey being on the cover of SI. What's this? Two in three weeks? Sid moves the needle for the casual fan, and I want more fans in the game. Cool.
Sell the game. Then they will become fans of the game.

just a reminder that pens fans are not gods gift to the NHL like they claim.
It was cool going to the Igloo and playing 15 bucks to basically sit on the glass. Even during the caps dark days it was never that bad.

Meh, that's sports.
Win or fans don't show up, just how it works.
Is it 6 yet? Ready to put this bitch on ice tonight!
