I'd rather grow up homeless in the US than in a slum in Brazil.
Ronaldinho and Ronaldo chose to live life to the fullest rather than have their PR teams suck everyone's dick about every single issue. Ronaldo is still rich and owns multiple soccer clubs.

All of those guys dealt with fame and success so much worse than LeBron. That’s the most impressive part of his success. He met and exceeded the unbelievable expectations and didn’t ruin his career with a massive drug addiction (Maradona), a notable drug and alcohol addiction that limited his effectiveness (Ronaldinho), didn’t get passed up in his prime through the evolution of the game (Ronaldinho), stayed healthy for the vast majority of his career (unlike Ronaldo and Neymar), didn’t gain 100 pounds of fat (Ronaldo), and didn’t have significant off-court issues due to tax evasion (Maradona, Neymar), and was never caught with transgender prostitutes (Ronaldo). People deal with love, success, and hundreds of millions of dollars in shockingly bad ways, and it’s damn impressive how well a guy born in poverty to a single mom crack smoker who is a train wreck herself was able to handle himself and have an incredible career.
Great post

He's correct that Lebron has thrived with unrealistic expectations placed on him from the word go.
That being said, Lebron is also an egotistical douche

Almost all of the great ones can be labeled as this. Few examples...
MJ
Bird
Brady
Ali
Saban

I can’t stand Lebron, and there is something negative to be said about how he’s changed his sport for the worse with player control (and also weirdly for the race war he seems to want so bad to happen). But there likely hasn’t been anybody in sports history that had the amount of expectations he did and lived up to them or surpassed them. So I don’t think Charles is terribly off with his comments.

Boys, there’s fairly good chance that Lebron is the best basketball player to ever live.
I’m proud to have been a fan from day one.

Except that time he created a fake racist scandal on his own property. Lebron is cringe as frick.
I love how this board just somehow decided that that thing was a hoax, and just absolutely ran with it no questions asked.

You didn't have to be Sherlock Holmes to be a master of the obvious.

Barkley has repeatedly and unashamedly defended the CCP from deserved criticism because he was worried about pissing off his Chinese/CCP Overlords and losing that phat CCP money.

Was a fan from the day he set foot onto an NBA court till after he beat golden state. Since then I’ve started to dislike his political views and the way he plays ball now.
I’ll admit he’s 2nd or 3rd greatest all time. I can’t decide between him or Kobe as #2 the other is #3

Anyone who has Kobe over Lebron doesn’t know shite about basketball. Lebrons a racist POS, but he’s easily better than Kobe.

Kobe didn’t have to go ring shopping.

quote:yeah, I guess in my first post I was a lil too focused on Barkley and his relationship with MJ to look at Lebron's career objectively. But you're right in a really good post by you in that it's a very commendable how Lebron's career or life has turned out. You can say he basically raised himslef into the man that he is today because his Mom's had little to do with that, in fact he had to be there for her more than she was for him. His dad (whoever he is) should feel really bad in not being a part of such a fine young man's life, how he turned out in the man that he's become, most father's would really be proud of that. He not only didn't have a father around, but made sure that wouldn't happen with his own sons in grooming them to also become fine upstanding young men from the looks of it. So, yes it is a great story!

Ronaldinho and Ronaldo I'm disappointed in because they both had the great Pele to look up to all their lives, and they've had controversial lives. Smh I haven't really kept up with them, but I'll take your word for it in that Ronaldo is a huge success in Brazil. To tell you the truth I think they both are rich and successful despite their crazy lives. Lol But great post, man!
