I actually almost agree. That's why I was a big fan of him early in his career. Dude had all the pressure on his shoulders and was incredible. Had all the talent and still outworked everyone. But he has become absolutely insufferable. Can't stand him anymore.

Also consider the period of time he came up in, the Social Media era. Where if you’re famous and fart too loud someone will make a post w/vid.

People care, but he gets a media pass for being a race baiting POS. He just has to avoid saying anything anti-Semitic apparently.

There are far greater examples of “greatest story in sports history” than Lebron.

Well I would love to hear one. Did you know for most of his young life, he and his mom slept in the back of a U-haul truck? Did you know he was homeless? Didn't even know where his next meal would come from. So from being homeless as a young boy to where he is now, I would say is one of, if not the greatest story in sports history.

Charles Barkley is not fooling anybody! He's in Lebron's corner because as I witnessed on 60 minutes this past Sunday he still hasn't made up with his buddy and all everything idol Michael Jordan. So, he's thrown his big butt behind Lebrick in support of him as the greatest ever and all this other shite to take a shot at his boy MJ.

I like chuck but this is definitely a stretch. I think bron's a clown for his political views and overall arrogance but i do respect that he kept his nose clean (relatively speaking) and seems to be a good family man. I also respect how long he's been good. Calling this the greatest sports story ever is a massive massive stretch, at best, though.

This happens all the time with South American soccer players that grow up in slums and are wonderkids. Maradona, Ronaldinho, OG Ronaldo, Neymar, etc...

I can’t stand Lebron, and there is something negative to be said about how he’s changed his sport for the worse with player control (and also weirdly for the race war he seems to want so bad to happen). But there likely hasn’t been anybody in sports history that had the amount of expectations he did and lived up to them or surpassed them. So I don’t think Charles is terribly off with his comments.

Dude, Jackie Robinson was not HOMELESS. He had a college education. Hell, Jackie Robinson wasn't even the best player in the Negro League. They signed Jackie Robinson because they knew he was disciplined enough to take the racial insults and bigotry that came with the job.

And Lebron going from being absolutely homeless to being a millionaire since his mid-teens seems to be a greater story than Robinson. And I love Jackie Robinson.

'greatest story in sports history'

Look, Lebron is a great player and has been incredible on the court. However, greatest story in sports history is kind of an insane thing to say.

Yes there were massive expectations but

quote:

would have been considered a bust if he didn't turn into a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer

The basketball HOF is a joke, so even if he was only good for 5 years he would have gotten in. Pau Gasol (17 PPG and 9 RPG) and Tony Parker (15.5 PPG and 5.6 APG) are nominees this year. No hate to either of them but neither of their careers screams HOF to me. h

I just think there are stories of people who had to persevere more to get where they got. 1980 Olympic Hockey Team for example sticks out

For everyone, do you think Lebron at the end of the day 100% maximized his potential, which was insane from day 1? I think he has been pretty fing incredible, but I'm not sure he has given 100% his all every minute of every day to the sport.

All of those guys dealt with fame and success so much worse than LeBron.

That’s the most impressive part of his success. He met and exceeded the unbelievable expectations and didn’t ruin his career with a massive drug addiction (Maradona), a notable drug and alcohol addiction that limited his effectiveness (Ronaldinho), didn’t get passed up in his prime through the evolution of the game (Ronaldinho), stayed healthy for the vast majority of his career (unlike Ronaldo and Neymar), didn’t gain 100 pounds of fat (Ronaldo), and didn’t have significant off-court issues due to tax evasion (Maradona, Neymar), and was never caught with transgender prostitutes (Ronaldo).

People deal with love, success, and hundreds of millions of dollars in shockingly bad ways, and it’s damn impressive how well a guy born in poverty to a single mom crack smoker who is a train wreck herself was able to handle himself and have an incredible career.
