Champagne in the locker room celebration

If you are going to go to the trouble of covering everything in plastic ahead of time, giving everyone safety goggles, etc. Just don't do the celebration at all. It's just silly at that point, especially considering there seem to be too many of them (clinching division, winning 1st round, winning CS, winning WS, etc. It's just seems lame and kind of fake.

If they still have games to play then cover everything up. If you just wrapped up the World Series, then let it rip.

Always found it strange that MLB teams do champagne after clinching playoffs along with after each playoff round.
Technically, you could have a champagne celebration 4 times in 5-6 weeks and not even win a world series after its all said and done

It's stupid, why do it? When you have to plastic everything down and put on a ski mask goggles, it ruins the entire point.

I remember yelling at my tv pissed off in 2007 when the Yankees did this after clinching the Wild Card. You’re celebrating like you won the World Series for clinching the WILD CARD.

Not really on topic for your question but just an FYI, in my days as a sports writer I was in the locker room for a couple of champagne celebrations. It looks fun on TV, however I have smelled some vile things in my lifetime, all the way up to skunk and decomposing bodies, but I have never smelled anything as stomach churningly vile as rotgut champagne (which is what they use) mixed with sweat and athletic liniment, etc. So I don’t see how they can physically stand doing it so many times.

Instead of this silly celebration.. they should hire one of the Diddy child pedophiles to do a concert in the locker room to celebrate

It does seem a little anticlimactic when a team gets their arse kicked in the game, but hits their magic number and clinches.

Some good ol' fashion pearl clutching going on here.
How dare dudes have fun playing a game, right?

it is strange compared to how business like the NFL and NBA are in the playoffs but how many players go their whole career grinding out season after season out of the playoffs by June?
The expanded playoffs watered down making the playoffs and winning a DS but I get celebrating it.
it is mostly just a commercial for Budweiser if you want to get real cynical

When champagne celebrations started, they didn't even have playoffs. It was the regular season and then the World Series. That winner celebrated with champagne.
Today we have Wild Card Playoffs, Divisional Playoffs, League Championship Series, and then the World Series. And for some reason, the champagne celebration follows with each.

It's cliche and kinda cringe at this point imo.
