I would argue that the Superdome is the most historic and relevant stadium in all Americans sports right now.
Come the frick on man.
Lambeau, Wrigley, Fenway, etc.
Its awesome, but come on...

True dat. Same thing with the Rangers Ballpark. They obviously don't want any atmosphere around either stadium. It's all parking lots. Jerry and Tom Hicks gotta get their money.

old and historic within their own sport(s), but the Superdome has transcended mamy genres, as the man listed.

It comes down to our culture being better than anybody else's.

What currently-used American venue can come close to this for importance, history, significance, and relevance?

Soldier field, MSG
Ask anyone outside of this massage board and the superdome won't be in the top 5 most likely not in the top 10.

As a Michigan guy, I completely disagree. The Superdome really doesn't have a bad spot in terms of seating. All areas of the dome offer great views of the game. Obviously, the Superdome's convenient location to the French Quarter and downtown New Orleans is very, very enticing. Louisiana's open container laws are nice as you can treat it like a "walking tailgate".
Soldier Field is great, but it's still a pain to park. You can take a taxi, but they usually drop you off at the end of Grant Park.
Madison Square Garden is phenomenal.
The Rose Bowl is beautiful, but much like the Cowboy's stadium...it's a complete pain in the arse if you are staying in Los Angeles. We arranged for a limousine to take us to and from the Rose Bowl, but I'm aware that not everyone has the ability to do that.

I'm around nearly every major event in the area. This year : AS game, wrestlemania, Tulane graduation, hell I was even at the Jehovah's witness event this past weekend. And poydras is never shut down.
And while some do walk, there are a good deal who cab.
I think the location is great fwiw, but posters are acting like the dome is right next door to the cities main tourist areas and that's just not true.

Madison Square Garden.
Damn how did I forget that?
I love the Superdome and think its awesome, I just think there are a few other stadiums that are bigger staples in this country's history.
I'd say top 5.
People who want to tear it down can get bent. Continue to maintain and renovate, but don't tear it down.

Please the walk is a solid 20 minutes especially when stopping for traffic lights on every corner
So a 20 minute walk will kill you to get to Harrahs?
What about a 6 hour walk from AT&T Stadium to Downtown Dallas?

40 minute walk rd trip is more than many can handle.
There's a reason why the cities entire fleet of cabs surround the dome every event day.

People going uptown, west bank and metarie.
Lots of locals don't like the quarter. The walk from the quarter is easy as shite. Its over before I know it most of the time.

Youre talking more Saints games.
Other events attract tourists who DO want to be in the QTR

finally a NOLA critic with a brain
As far as the Superdome goes. It is in the top 10 in seating, has probably the best location in the league, Champions Square, all of the $$$ generating areas are basically brand new. The cheap seats need to be replaced with black and gold seats so that the whole stadium matches on the inside, do some work on the restrooms and concessions in the upper areas and get a center hung video screen.

ok.
have you ever been to a Saints game? NO bowl? the Super bowl? Sugar Bowl/BCS champ game?
Poydras river bound is shut down up until about St Charles ave, like they are almost ushering people out to downtown

Contextually speaking, it is, when you start comparing it to other cities. Yea, some FAT people may not walk it, but tons of people do. In most other cities, NO ONE is walking.
Even so, again, you only are going to make the walk on gameday. The allure has always been the hotels are all in close proximity as well as restaurants and night life. Not so much the Dome, which is just lagniappe.
You seemingly can come down for a sporting event and not use or rent a car your whole trip. Or even have the need for a cab.

Well I'm sure Antiques Roadshow has a crowd that needs a cab to go 2 miles, but most events that have fans partying in the quarter don't need that.
