The car used by Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James as a high school senior is headed to the auction block.

The 2003 Hummer H2 will go up for auction by Goldin Auctions on Monday, and the car will be sold on Dec. 8.

Goldin Auctions president Ken Goldin said he feels the car is "definitely a six-figure piece."

quote:

The car became the subject of an investigation by Ohio basketball officials before documentation cleared questions of LeBron's eligibility when it became apparent that his mother, Gloria, took out a $50,000 loan to pay for the car. She had given it to him for his 18th birthday.

The car was bought in 2013 for an undisclosed sum. It has been displayed at the Greater Cleveland Auction since.

quote:

The Kelley Blue Book value of the car is only about $18,000, though that doesn't account for the custom sound system and TVs that James had installed.

Just last month, Walter Payton's 1979 Porsche was sold in Chicago for $324,500.

I can think of a few posters here who are about to submit a hefty bid in the hopes that there's still some faint but palpable Lebron scent in the seat covers

I'm shocked an H2 even has an 18k kbb value.

H2's make a strong argument for worst car of the 2000s. Literally no redeeming qualities.

Where did high school poor oppressed Lebron get the money for an H2 Hummer back then?

Reading the OP would answer your question:

I can think of one who would have probably put in the heftiest bid just a few short years ago.

Lebron James

Was SO GOOD at basketball coming out of HS

And SUCH a sure thing to be a GREAT NBA player

That his mom took out a loan to buy it for him because all parties involved knew there was no risk
