It's interesting because this site has been saying "vote with your wallet" regarding not visiting businesses that have been too PC (gillette, target, now MLB, etc.) and yet here we have the OP getting bitched at for stating why he won't support a business any longer

Well he’s got 50 upvotes

I’d imagine he has support from the same people you’re talking about

I’m the guy that likes Chic Fil A and Ben & Jerry’s and football despite what the people who play/work there think and do in their free time.

Crazy, I know

It’s the need to announce it that people are making fun of because it’s just annoying virtue signaling, which I thought we all hated, no?

Boycott whoever you want. Just don’t go begging for a pat on the back from strangers by telling everyone.

Nobody fricking cares.

No one in the U.S. in 2020 is oppressed.

Those companies have founders/owners that are political....but neither of those companies bombards you with their support for a group associated with domestic terrorists, antisemitism, or Marxism.

Here's my take dude -

Cancelling everything you like because of the woke movement will leave you pretty bored and unhappy. But unlike some, I do think there comes a point where you can't in good conscience support something that is destructive and in bad faith.

I suspect that is not the case with MLB. If I was a Red Sox fan I wouldn't be happy, but MLB trying to check a box by putting a slogan on mounds for one weekend might be a fair trade for moving past this "movement" in a sport that probably doesn't have a lot of adherents involved. Contrast it with NFL or NBA, where I do think "getting past it" is going to be harder.

I think we need more people who are unwilling to overlook the small appeasements because you simply can't appease the mob. I don't see this as falling into that category. Traditionally, I recognize that corporate culture makes moves like this a lot to get on with their business, and that may be what this is (hopefully). Unfortunately there is a growing trend of irrational behavior by corporations (virtue signaling coming before profit-centered motives), but we'll have to see if MLB can avoid that.

No, but still a competent generalization. The fact is that I would happily support a group that showed evidence that they were working to affect true change and improve the black community. BLM ain’t it. In my opinion, they’ve done more harm to the movement than good. They’ve allowed their group to be co-opted by the likes of Antifa without a hint of condemnation of that group’s actions from them.

Is there a "BLM organization?"

I honestly don't know. It started out as a simple statement, and then I started seeing people claiming to be "leader of the Greater Baltimore BLM Chapter, Inc." or whatever. But I still don't know if there's a single organization, or group of organizations who've definitively banded together, that can call itself "BLM."

Well you're in luck, because today you will learn those things.

quote:

Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes.

Here you can ready the history, (or 'Herstory' as they put it)
quote:

The project is now a member-led global network of more than 40 chapters. Our members organize and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes.

Having MLB put Black Lives Matter on every mound on opening day is the final straw. If I continue to watch, then I am complicit.

I was really looking forward to this season. Feels bad man.

100% same feelings for me. I hate to be put in a position to make these decisions but I feel like these leagues keep shitting on me and forcing this down my throat.

They claim to be grassroots, but they have backers with deep wallets.

I wasn't doing this to virtue signal, merely lament the fact that a sport I enjoyed watching from childhood into adulthood was ruined.

I wear the uniform now. And you're still an idiot...i don't precisely agree or disagree with the "movement" and it will never affect me enough where I have to sacrifice my happiness or enjoyment. If I decided to boycott everything i disagreed with there will be nothing left. There are a lot of big corps/orgs that im not profound of, but I am grown up to know how block that out and move on with my life regardless

and not attempt to broadcast how a something as small as a sport is negatively impacting my life so much.
