quote:I played HS ball from 1979 through 1982.. and we had 3 games delayed significantly due to lightning. also I was a ball boy in a 1972 quarterfinal game that had an hour and a half lightning delay.. this is nothing new.... but the technology now leads to more frequent delays...
And how many times “back in the day” did someone die from a lightening strike at a game? Pussy millennials.

It's a fair point, why don't they just install metal lightning rods to eliminate the risk?
Wait, you mean almost all stadiums have several flag poles surrounding the perimeter of the stadium already?

Until we eliminate all risk, no matter how infinitesimally small, and all millennial twinks are safe for their sexual reassignment surgeries, the terrorists have won.
We get it . Risk is scary , eliminate the scary risk, now you don’t have to be scared by the scary world where scary things happen. Bunch of doily- folders.

Before I continue, can you clarify who you mean by millennials? It’s either the kids who are playing the game, who aren’t millennials, the parents of said kids, who aren’t millennials, or the people who run bowl games/ESPN etc who, you guessed it, aren’t millennials.

I live like 3.5 miles away from the Cotton Bowl. It's not even raining or lightning anymore.
My bet is they didn't want to pay the stadium staff any OT.

Ayou don’t think lighting safety may have anything to do with those statistics?
Our not standing at the highest point in a stadium in a thunderstorm?

I’m about 4 miles east of the cotton bowl right now. Not as bad as it was about an hour and a half ago, but it’s still raining decently. You could play right now for sure.

You brought up millennials, not me. I just responded with a nod to millennials and noted that you had twinkish anxiety about your sexual reassignment surgery. Which I hope goes well. Not judging.
The problem that exists here - the desire to eliminate reasonable risk from life , the propensity to layer rule after rule upon society to eliminate said risk, and the negative way that effects our quality of life , is what the OP addressed. Our scary world and how scared it makes you to go outside where it’s scary and scary things happen in a scary way.

I replied to your post complaining about millennials. The first person to bring it up was msudawg.

I would have at least checked the weather before making this dumb thread. When do you think the game comes back on? Before the next line comes in then delay again?
Why are people downvoting this? Pretty basic logic here

Something about millennials and sexual reassignment surgeries I think.

I think they could have been at halftime by now. Even if they had to take another delay I really think this game could have been finished and it came down to this being a post season game with seasonal stadium staff they would have to pay extra.
If this was a regular season game there is no way in hell it would have already been canceled.

I played high school ball in Mississippi from 1986-89, and in 1988 we played in a tropical storm. Well, we moved the game to Thursday, but it was raining and lightening all night. We never delayed once, but got our arses whipped 36-0 and lost the division.

Old people complain constantly that there are too many Bowl games.
Bowl gets cancelled and old people still bitch.
Starting to think boomers are just a bunch of pussies who like to complain

Being a boy, and thinking like a boy, you don’t know what you’ve lost in this super vanilla, no lightning - risk world you constantly evangelize for . You don’t know what you don’t know. And you don’t know what you’ve lost, because you never had it. And that Is a function of your age and the daily Progsoy- gulping you have been trained to think is good for you.
The world is objectively better when adults assume reasonable risk on a case by case basis and proceed accordingly. I have no expectation that you will understand that point and/or why it is important.

America is in decline if we don't let a storm pass and continue to play.
