The PAC 12 folded because of Larry Scott's poor leadership.
Instead of letting ESPN go 50/50 on the P12 Network, he scoffed at the idea because he wanted to keep all the money. The guy really doesn't read the room well. He has a bunch of schools on the coast line with student body demographics that don't really support football. Also, the fall of USC and the sanctions really hurt the conference overall. USC is and will always be their biggest brand and them being down is not good for the conference. Much like FSU is to the ACC, USC is the anchor that held the PAC 12 football together. All conferences, except the SEC, need their most storied program to be at it's best. The SEC is exempt because when one program drops off, there are several there ready to claim the crown until it is taken

I don’t think it’s the sole cause, but your theory is correct in at least that being a player. Maybe a major one?

I know this won't play well, but west coast culture is fundamentally anti-American tradition and college football is not a big draw.

Entertainment celebrities
Silicon Valley
YouTube influencers
NBA/MLB
Political activism

All dwarf any college football interests.

Not to mention the student bodies of west coast universities are as secular and anti-tradition as ever.

The demographics at west coast schools just don't align with CFB. Even a good portion of the alumni base, outside of USC, isn't big into football.

Be careful of what you want, you may get it. Pac 12, 10, 4. It's all over but the crying.

Sad, but very true. CFB has become more regional and I'm ok with it

They had an offer from ESPN a few years back and turned it down because it wasn’t enough. Then the Big 12 signed with ESPN.

I'm sure Ed is fine with realignment. His school (UCLA) is in the Big Ten now.

Realignment has nothing to do with NIL

Like hell it doesn't. Paying players is the driver here. Either by NIL or direct employment, they are preparing for the future.

I think that will be a disaster, but that's what they see coming.
