Be careful of what you want, you may get it. Pac 12, 10, 4. It's all over but the crying.

Realignment has nothing to do with NIL

They didn't partner up with any major networks. That is what killed the conference.

NIL had nothing to do with this. It’s a byproduct of TV/media rights contracts

Ed O'Bannon wanted to be paid for his image and likeness being used in an NCAA officially licensed product and the NCCA refused to even consider it, stuck its head in the sand and hoped it would all go away. Over a decade later, the NCAA was still has its head in the sand and the supreme court called them out on their bullshite.

The Pac 12 is folding because it sucks at football.

The only thing that links these two events is a free market economy (or a version of one anyway).

PAC12 died because they weren’t willing to position themselves for the future. They're like the Rose Bowl, it will fade into the past.

It’s an absolutely stupid decision that these universities are making on behalf of its student athletes, but money talks.

It wasnt that they didnt try. They could not generate any interest from them. The best deal they have on the table is from AppleTV and it would yield 1/4 the revenue to its members that Vanderbilt will get from the SEC.

Speak for yourself. We haven’t had the NCAA video game in 11 years because of it.

That is a damn good question. Because if they had, they could have controlled it, unlike today where they are literally prohibited by law from controlling it in all but a
few very specific circumstances.

So, the universities and corporations, such as EASports, can profit from someone’s identity, but they can’t?

The PAC’s best media offer was a deal with Apple’s streaming service. That’s why the schools that could jumped.

If I want to watch rich people compete I will watch polo or sailing. Those guys are out to win. These idiots in college get paid and don't GAF. Anthony Richardson barely tried in half the games he started. He could have cared less once he got paid. The NFL didn't care either. Having a shitty college career, no problem when you have talent.

The identity is the school. Have any of them skip college and see how much their name, image and likeness is worth.

Also no one owns the universities, so saying they get rich is like saying no one gets rich. I don't have a problem with laws making it illegal for companies to market amateur athletes.

I know this won't play well, but west coast culture is fundamentally anti-American tradition and college football is not a big draw.

Entertainment celebrities
Silicon Valley
YouTube influencers
NBA/MLB
Political activism

All dwarf any college football interests.

Not to mention the student bodies of west coast universities are as secular and anti-tradition as ever.
