I think Clemson knows it is likely to happen with or without their support. Again, their best play is to make sure the new money coming into the ACC with the additions is all distributed through incentives with almost all of it related to football.
Let's say winning the ACC each year is worth an extra $25 million. That sure as hell helps soften the blow of being stuck in that GOR if Clemson is winning the league every other year for the rest of the decade.

Seems like Tulane's Win over Big12 Champ K-State + Winning the AAC Championship + NY6 Appearance + NY6 W over USC is making SMU fans really salty.
I can't imagine what their defense will be when the Green Wave beat Ole Miss in Week 2.

SMU is in too many shadows of other popular Texas programs to be relevant in a Big Conference. They metro area couldn't even support them in past seasons when they were playing on Thursday or Friday nights in the most passionate state for consuming football.
It’s almost like they were playing shite teams on nights when Texas high schools have the spotlight

I see you’re a man of good taste

Honestly I think TCU leaving SMU in the dust has more to do with it. Watching them make the Natty was probably the final straw

It's actually 6. Banks was in.
I was at that game and in the visitor endzone. He was 100% in. Even their fans thought so when the replay was on their jumbotron.

Sources: After a weekend of conversations, there’s continued momentum toward the ACC adding Stanford, Cal and SMU. ACC officials are working on gathering the presidents/chancellors on a call, which is expected to take place at some point early this week.
quote:
Sources caution that nothing is finalized and the details are “only in pencil” as of now. Expect a decision either way this week. Officials are still working specifically on how to divide the pool of money that would be spilt up among ACC members after the three schools join.
quote:
That amount is expected to be between $50 and $60 million annually. Some of that will be distributed to all members, and the rest would be put into a pool for success initiatives.

I’m not an expert on this sort of thing but doesn’t 3 more schools mean 3 more votes to keep the conference together?
If the ultimate goal is to break the GOR and blow up the conference I don’t see what a few extra peanuts of TV money does for FSU/Clemson/UNC etc

FSU, Clemson, UNC, NC State are no votes.

Sources: ACC presidents to meet on conference expansion on Monday night
quote:
Over the last several days, momentum has been building in support of expansion — a change from 2 1/2 weeks ago. In a straw poll of presidents Aug. 9, an expansion vote fell at least one vote short of passing. There were four dissenters: Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina and NC State. Notre Dame receives a vote as the 15th member and supports expansion.
quote:
The ACC’s decision with regards to Stanford and Cal is impacting two schools out West. Oregon State and Washington State are delaying any decisions of their own. The duo wishes to rebuild the Pac-12 — already a tall hurdle that will be made more difficult without a brand like Stanford.
Without Stanford, OSU and WSU’s options are limited. Joining either the Mountain West or the American Athletic Conference are the most likely scenarios. The Mountain West and American are making their pitches to the schools over the coming days
Posted on 8/28/23 at 2:04 pm to tigerfan84
Adding those schools isn't going to do anything to make those 4 schools want to stay...its counterproductive...if anything, this will only fuel their desire to leave the conference.

One reason ACC considering Stanford, Cal & SMU is ESPN's media rights deal w/ACC allows ESPN to renegotiate (i.e. reduce revenue) if league drops below 15 members, sources told @ActionNetworkHQ. With potential future departures of FSU, Clemson & possibly others, ACC considering P5 schools now as opposed to G5 schools later to maintain required membership number

Really lame that the ACC allows ND, a non football member, to have a vote on matters pertaining to football

Never underestimate us to f@ck things up...I actually surprised these idiots are not adding CT also...
This is about football now and highest attendance is 14th nationally is CLemson (only FSU and VT above 60k in ACC and top 25 attendance..4 if you count ND)..so lets add three schools who come in nationally at 59, 69 and 79th in attendance

SMU’s only redeeming quality is they are willing to work for free as an indentured servant for a decade
This alone should tell you their product is shite and they bring nothing to the conference. If I was the ACC I would vote on Calford and leave out SMU

On the one hand, buying your way in is ridiculous. ON the other hand, why not? 1/2 the P5 was grandfathered in anyway.
