Arthur Ashe Courage Award
Presented at the Rainbow National Convention?
If he/she wants to do this, I am good with it, but with all of the courageous acts going on around the world giving him/her an award for it makes me sick.

This day in age, does it really take courage to be a transgendered person? He's getting his time in the spotlight with nothing but support from the media.
Kinda agree. In the past I bet it was incredibly difficult. Now they throw you a rainbow-themed parage and put you on a thousand magazine covers.
Not that courageous.

Wonder how many agents are having this conversation with their client prior to the ESPYs:
"When Jenner is presented with the award the camera might be on you. Stand and applaud. I don't care what you think about it just do it. The shitstorm that will follow if you are caught on camera not giving a standing ovation will not be worth it."

How is this courage? Seems to be treated like a rock-star now after announcing all this. He'll probably get his own show too.
You want courage! Give this award to some person who brings soccer or hockey to kids in a war-torn country. That's courage........

Bruce Jenner hasn't been in organized sports in almost 40 years. Why is he getting honored by a sports network?
At least Michael Sam is still playing football.

Even if caitlyn shouldnt gey the award do people really think every single gay gegs praised for coming out?look in the thread. .people bash the frick out of yoi saying yourr absolutely nuts. Because a magazine applauds it doesnt mean she doesnt face wrath of mid country rednecks whi says she gonna burn in hell
And if you arent famous and from a small town with everyone thinking its a sin it cant be easy at all.

I agree with that. If he wants to be a woman than go on dude, it's a free country and he's an adult who can make his own decisions, maybe this will allow him true happiness so that's great
But I'm not really sure why he should be praised as some courageous hero for it

Yea I was thinking that too. Hopefully Riley Cooper isn't there

The only thing more shocking and disgusting than Caitlyn winning the Arthur Ashe Courage award at the ESPY's is that people actually give a shite about who wins the Arthur Ashe Courage award at the ESPY's

Didn't realize the namesake of said award was active in organized sports when the award was named after him

Agree or disagree with it, it got you talking about the most pointless award show there is.
Marketing ploy: Successful.

I prefer to get upset at shite that actually effects me. In a year, no one will care and he will be forgotten.

I can get that, and if Jenner was close to soemthign like that. he'd be showing some courage there, No doubt. I could see someone going through all hell in that above situation you mentioned but this is about Jenner's situation now. He's nowhere near that small town situation you're explaining, and he will be treated like a star. How is that showing courage when one knows their calender will be full of people tripping over themselves to show them love afterwards?
Now if Jenner did this back when he first thought about becoming a women. That would've been courageous back in 70's & 80's. When there wasn't barely anyone on his side back then, but it's tough buying what they're selling now......

Yup imagine how many people will be tuning in just because of that.
ESPN is good at making money.
It's more of a "think about all the viewers that otherwise wouldn't watch this" than a "omg that was courageous." even the haters will tune in to watch the "train wreck"

Yep, it stinks you're probably right on with this thinking.

I was coming here to say the same thing. Has this person made ANY contribution to sports since about 5 minutes after the 1976 Summer Olympics? Has he done ANYTHING in the last 10 years that wasn't completely calculated to generate publicity for himself and his fricked-up family? At least Arthur Ashe dedicated his retirement period to teaching underprivileged kids the game.
Maybe Garth Brooks can win it next year because he used to participate in Spring Training.

while I don't think there's anything really heroic or brave about what Jenner is doing, I also see right through a cheap, marketing ploy by ESPN to gain a draw for a largely meaningless show. Jenner likely knows this as well, but that family is never one to shy away from media whoring so he's ok with it.
