Caitlin Clark needs 18 points to pass Pistol Pete's all-time scoring mark.

Caitlin has 1 remaining game left on this upcoming Sunday, against Ohio State.

Obviously, this comes with the asterisk that Pete did this in 3 years. Caitlin is doing it in 4. Nobody will ever truly surpass what he accomplished. Even still, it's very impressive for her to be in a place where few have ever come close to reaching in college basketball history.

Pete also didn’t have a 3pt line.

Sigh.

Women’s basketball. Totally different category. These threads are tedious.

I guess it’s more impressive than Mike Davis’ kid chucking his way over 5 years only to fall just short

Her record compared to Pete should be disregarded the same way that dude from Detroit Mercy's would've been

They are not the same situation as Pete and to value them equally is nonsense.

Yeah, that's the asterisk. Not that she plays a different sport.

I disagree, the guy from Detroit mercy had an argument. Caitlyn Clark doesn't. It's a different sport. Are the 1000 college strikeout leaders all softball pitchers?

Let’s put it this way… nobody will never ever avg 44.2 ppg over a three year period. But it’s possible that another woman could come along and do what Clark has done.

His argument is worthless too.

Pistol Pete did what he did in 83 games (3 seasons) with no three point line. Davis got his in 144 games (5 seasons) in a time when the three pointer is pushed more than ever.

ETA: Dale Brown and others have estimated that, based on watching tape, Pistol took like 13 threes a game and would've averaged in the mid 50 ppg if the line existed.

I heard that on ESPN the other day “18 points from passing Pistol Pete.” Love how they want to integrate men and women’s basketball when it’s convenient for them. Completely ridiculous, she’s the leading women’s scorer. If they want to say D-1 leading scorer to make themselves feel better then ok but she’ll never be Pistol Pete

Pistol had a penis. She does not. Two separate records.

He had no argument. He played 5 full seasons of college due to being granted an extra year due to Covid. College athletes are only supposed to have 4 seasons.

His 5th season should not be counted towards official statistics.

I think Clark needs to play a 5th year (Covid) to really put some distance on all the college basketball stats. She's probably more popular now and getting more in endorsements than she would at the WNBA level, especially since she's breaking all these records. I'm sure there would be plenty more to break next year.

It was funny when he was sad he didn’t get the record after playing 2 more seasons than Pete at some low level school

Lots of college athletes play 5 seasons (medical redshirts, not just covid) and they always have counted towards statistics

It was bullshite that they tried to give him an extra tourney game to break the record, but that didn't end up happening.
