Pittsburgh was dying. Cleveland was dying. Detroit was/is dying. Factor in that Green Bay isn’t exactly booming, and that Buffalo is near Toronto, and I think it’s reasonable to suggest that Western NY is still a good spot for the NFL.

Those cities have considerably larger Metros.

Detroit = 5.5 mill
Cleveland = 3.5 mill
Pittsburgh = 2.3 mill

Buffalo = 1.1 mill and still falling

$1.5 billion stadium

Never happen with an empty Alamo Dome 75 miles away, if it were ever going to happen.

I’d think they’d build a stadium on the south end of Austin to draw from San Antonio as well

Why wouldn’t they just go to San Antonio and spend less to upgrade the Alamo Dome?

If a team were to move to the area, I promise you they would get promised a shiny new stadium to do it, they aren’t moving to go into the Alamo Dome

They aren’t footing the bill so why would they care about using a cheaper option?

Yeah but Austin isn’t exactly a massive TV market I don’t believe

The Austin metro area is a little more than double the size of The Buffalo metro area.

And I’m not advocating for the team to move, I hope they stay. One of the best fan bases in the NFL and they don’t deserve to have this happen.

But my point still stands. The NFL doesn’t give a shite about the fans and they have demonstrated this over and over.

It’s way better than Memphis.

Many, maybe not, I haven’t lived in Buffalo and I haven’t lived in Memphis in over a decade.

But none of that is relevant to this discussion

I’m not really disagreeing with Austin being a bigger city or that the NFL would look for a bigger city, but the market sizes are pretty similar so it doesn’t really make sense to hop from one smaller market to another. Not to mention how segmented the actual fanbase would be in Austin given you have two other NFL teams within 4 hours of this city and it’s already a transplant type city.

I mean Jerry would never let it happen regardless. That’s why I think it’s funny to try to use Austin as a leverage city, but I guess with LA out of the picture these teams need a new bait city

Somehow, this is the Longhorns’ fault.

Considering the NFL is about to get their shite pushed in by the city of St. Louis over moving the Rams, perhaps they should hold off on moving the Bills.

One billion dollar lawsuit at a time.

Buffalo isn't as small a market as is made out.

Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Southern Ontario, probably even the southern tier of NY state and northern PA.

Much in the same way New Orleans is deemed small despite having a foothold on virtually all of LA, MS and the Gulf Coast all the east to Pensacola.

So the libs in Austin are going to pay for the stadium? Like the residents of SF paid for the baseball stadium?

The Alamodome doesn’t have the bells and whistles that these new stadiums need. I’m perfectly fine watching a game there, but it’s on par with the old GeorgiaDome, and it’s established that those places aren’t good enough.

Austin is full of transplants now. I know there’s lots of money in the area, but it doesn’t scream “loyal pro sports city” to me. That’s something San Antonio would be better at.

At some point, maybe you just move a team to Fort Worth and have two in the Metroplex
