Kelly was a great coach at Cincy. He'll have ND back in a few years

Substitute Davie, Willingham, and Weis in there. you have said the same shite people have been saying since the mid 90's.

at this thread.

I watched the Irish play Michigan and MSU, and I saw the two biggest coaching blunders of the year. (unsuccessfully going for 4th and goal at the end of 1st half against Michigan,

At the time, he had no idea if Crist was healthy and could go in the 2nd half. If Nate Montana's your QB you need to have it be a one possession game entering the half.

going on 4th, and failing, on your own side of the field in a tie game against State with 6 min left.

And the defense held. Didn't matter. If ND gets it, there's a likely chance they win the game.

The team in general just looks sharper already than last year. There's still a lot of improvement to be made, but to expect a BCS appearance overnight is crazy.

If they do get to the BCS in 2 or 3 years it might not necessarily be because they deserve it, since they have a one game advantage over anybody else when it comes to getting in. I don't know why everybody else puts up with it.

The reason they have such a crappy bowl record lately is because they almost always get slotted into a bowl one level better than anybody else with the same record would get, so they get matched up with somebody that is capable of pounding them.

Lately they are nothing but a middle tier Big Eleven team that isn't burdened by being in the Big 11.

Davie and Weis were never head coaches before.

Willingham's records at Stanford:

7-4-1
7-5
5-6
3-8
8-4
5-6
9-3

Kelly's past 6 years' records at 3 different stops:

4-7
6-5
10-4
new school
10-3
11-3
12-0

Kelly has been hugely successful in 3 different stops.

It's not even close to the same thing as those other people.

Im sure you could have said the same thing about Bama before Saban got there. How bout SC before carroll, OU before stoops. All it comes down to is finding the right coach and ND will be back.

yeah, until he proves something on the big stage, Kelly will always be hype to me. Cincy was basically a mid major playing in an unworthy BCS conference.

ND has loads of talent, tradition and money. Should be a successful gig.

How bout giving him some time to bring in his own players before he's deemed a failure

why cant people realize that its not on the offense....

Charlie Weis Offenses were amazing at ND, but they couldnt play defense.

WHY?

because defensive beasts are not always the brightest crayons in the box... because of ND's standards they cant keep the type of players that other teams can get on defense.

it's not like brian kelly's played against a bunch of scrubs. his team has fought very hard against two ranked teams. the losses have been excruciating, but this team has a lot of heart, and it surprises me how good dayne crist looks as a first-time starter.

Kelly's a winner. If this year is seen as a sort of disappointment, that's going to buck the trend. In Willingham's first season, everybody thought that they were "back". In Weis's first season, everybody thought that they were "back". Kelly was an excellent hire that affords them as good of an opportunity as anyone to really bring them back to competing consistently well on the national stage.

but offensive players, especially skill players, are geniuses?
