Yeah I agree, McMurphy’s actually a very good and reliable journalist and that’s his reputation in the analyst community like Woj, Schefty and Feldman, most of his reports are on point and accurate
Posted on 8/6/18 at 12:04 am to Weagle25
It will come down to if he violated title 9 in anyway.
Posted on 8/6/18 at 12:05 am to Weagle25
Exactly unless Urban’s the biggest most sociopathic liar in the history of the planet which isn’t outside the realm of possibility given all the stuff he says and how he was recently probably detrimentally caught in a lie

But McMurphy published an article claiming URBAN KNEW, not I THINK URBAN KNEW or I ASSUME URBAN KNEW.
He glossed over the fact that his entire report was based on assumption, albeit an assumption most would make.
But I've also maintained this really isn't about whether Urban knew or lied to the press. He didn't commit a crime, so the question is did the OSU administration know beforehand or, if they didn't, did he fail to report it in a timely manner?
The ONLY question is did he violate the OSU code of conduct/ethics. If he didn't, he won't be fired.

Exactly, OSU doesn’t need another Title IX lawsuit to supplement the current 3 they’re defending against, they can handle short-lived public outrage over Urban retaining him but not the perception of a pattern of Title IX violations

Who cares? The texts constitute circumstantial evidence that implies he knew and he always says his wife’s his closest confidant and all that, that’s the defense I would use in court against a defamation suit don’t be a pussy

Well that's easy (he didn't). The abused wife wasn't an employee of the university and the abuse occurre outside the scope of his job and duties.
The question is did he violate OSU's code of conduct regarding the reporting of suspected physical or sexual abuse by an employee (which DOES include cases of abuse outside the realm of the university and job). It is looking less and less likely that he did, because it sounds like OSU was already aware of the allegations.

Yeah bro reporting is in Title 9 if I’m not mistaken. If he reported it he is good to go either way. And if they were already aware and he knew they were why would he go tell them something they already knew?

I feel like him lying about it the way he did makes more sense if he did actually report. He could have been just trying to protect the university or something. Him bold face denying he knew if he did and didn’t act on it the way he should have with everything else that’s happened in today’s climate would be borderline retarded. Like he needs an iq test if that’s what he pulled.

Reporting is, IF the abuse in question occurred towards another employee or student or while carrying out duties related to the job. Beating your wife at 2 AM in your bedroom is not a Title IX issue, unless she is also employed by the University.

Agreed the scope of OSU’s Title IX regulation is pretty broad according to the document, covers off-campus allegations and things of that nature too the requirement would apply
Posted on 8/6/18 at 12:21 am to Pedro
There is just too many things that don’t add up for the situation to be “Urban knew his assistant coach beats his wife and did nothing.”
Posted on 8/6/18 at 12:32 am to Roger Klarvin
I don’t think that’s legally correct, the document applies to anyone involved with the university so Smith, Urban and Shelley would be under the regulation’s jurisdiction but it doesn’t specify to whom a violation must occur, that’s to the Title IX coordinator’s discretion ie this is very broad so I’d be inclined to believe that reporting a school employee’s known allegation of DV against a significant other would be required

Surprised it took y'all so long to relegate yourselves to this.

While a somewhat safe assumption, that's hack reporting by someone trying to put their name back on the map.
Laying everything out with pictures of texts to back things up isn’t hack Journalism. This isn’t a court room a reporter doesn’t have to show proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

The math surrounding the “Urban knew, reported it, then claimed he had no knowledge of the incident only to revise his statement after he wound up on paid leave” narrative is even sketchier.

Of course he doesn't have proof of urban knowing. Did someone actually think he did?

Some people can see it for what it is, and some people can't.
