NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre’s name has surfaced in an alleged multimillion-dollar welfare fraud scheme in his home state of Mississippi.
An audit of funds intended to assist at-need Mississippi residents alleges that the state’s Department of Human Services oversaw more than $94 million in improperly spent federal money.
According to the state audit released on Monday, $1.1 million of those funds went to Favre for appearances he did not make.

The audit states that the MCEC paid Favre’s company, Favre Enterprises, $500,000 in December 2017 and $600,000 in June 2018 for appearances. According to the Clarion-Ledger, those appearances were to include promotions, autographs and speaking engagements.
According to the audit conducted by State Auditor Shad White’s office, “auditors were able to determine that the individual contracted did not speak nor was he present for those events.”
Favre is not facing criminal charges.
quote:
In addition to the funds paid to Favre, MCEC is accused of directing more than $1 million in welfare funds to Davis’ nephew and brother-in-law, paying professional wrestlers, Ted DiBiase, Ted DiBiase Jr., and Brett DiBiase for work that wasn’t performed and purchasing three cars valued at more than $50,000 each for MCEC director Nancy New and her family.
White said in a statement that the audit “shows the most egregious misspending my staff have seen in their careers.”
quote:
The audit arrived on the heels of criminal charges against former DHS director John Davis and five others who stand accused of embezzling $4 million in welfare funds. They pleaded not guilty in February.
Was this guy paying to hang out with athletes using state welfare money?

So Brett Favre should regulate who is willing to pay him money?

Ok, Favre is a new wrinkle. I’d heard about the Ted Dibiase stuff before now.
I guess every man has his price.

According to the New York Times, the audit was conducted when in 2016, 11,700 families in Mississippi applied for TANF assistance.
His office approved only 167 requests.

Wow. Less than a 1% approval rate is sketchy as hell given the number of applications.

This is why I never felt bad for butthurt Ted DiBiase when Eric Bischoff fricked him out of the NWO spokesman post

So OP had Favre in the thread title (probably to get more views) but let’s be honest all the posts are focusing on “this guy” in the state government office.
All things being equal, what’s the more likely scenario: Favre agreed to some random appearances while driving his tractor one day. & just never followed up it bc when has he ever done a deep dive into accounting to prevent random government workers from trying to get rich OR
Some government worker who knew someone in Favres entourage got him to sign papers and then just said everything was ok while a % of the funds got distributed to everyone including Farvre?

Do you often get paid for services you don’t perform?
If so, sign me up!

My bet is Favre had no clue about the contract or received the money. Likely someone on his business end of things is involved and embezzled the money.

Meanwhile, Jordan is turning down $100 million just to do a 2 hour appearance

That's essentially what the kid did in the HBO documentary about college basketball. Still landed him in prison

Very possible but I doubt it. Article says Favre didn’t attend everything he was supposed to, not none of what he was supposed to. Favre is well off but $500,000 for a couple of appearances a year is still a lot of money.

I guess that’s my point. If BF has a business guy that handles “BF Enterprises“ , to me it’s more realistic that the guy signed the contract and took the money. Meanwhile BF doesn’t know anything about where to go or what appearance you make. It happens to these athletes all the time. Just seems like 500k is nothing to BF.cant see him personally accepting the money and not making the appearances.

Well we know he didn't spend the money on a razor...
Most government entities have laws against billing the government for work not done / falsifying invoices. Technically, a nonprofit paid BF Enterprises, not sure if that will be enough to shield them.
Someone from BF's orbit is about to be in some trouble, if the government decides that the non-profit was a sham. Either BF knew about this, and will get busted, or he didn't know about this, and someone around him will get busted.
Also, Mr. Favre, there is an IRS agent on line 3...
