And here we are again, breaking down a winner-take-all tilt between baseball’s most bitter rivals.
Catcher: Slight advantage: Yankees
First base: Advantage: Yankees
Second base: Slight advantage: Yankees
Shortstop: Advantage: Red Sox
Third base: Advantage: Red Sox
DJ LeMahieu’s difficult 2021 regular season ended with a hernia injury, and that further alters the left-hand side of the Yankees’ infield. Rougned Odor could start here, or Urshela could shift back over with Andrew Velazquez at short. Tyler Wade’s also in the mix. In any event, it’s a sub-optimal situation for the Yankees.
Rafael Devers, on the other hand, built on his budding reputation as one of the game’s young stars. He came up clutch with the go-ahead homer in the ninth inning Sunday to seal this Wild Card date, punctuating a season in which his .890 OPS was third in the Majors among qualified third basemen.
Left field: Advantage: Red Sox
Center field: Advantage: Red Sox
Right field: Advantage: Yankees
Designated hitter: Advantage: Yankees
Starting pitcher: Advantage: Yankees
Bullpen: Advantage: Yankees
Prediction:
MLB.com: Breaking down Yankees-Red Sox by position

Red Sox are going to lose. I've been a shitty, shitty fan since they traded Mookie, but they have been utter dog shite and backed their way into the playoffs.

Only two position groups that matter in a one game playoff. Who gives a shite which team has the better outfielders or infielders or catcher? They have a fraction of the impact of a starting pitcher or the back end of a bullpen in a game like this.

They may lose, I expect it, but they made the correct move with Mookie imo. Difficult to pay him that amount and do everything else they need.

Being the head coach of an NFL franchise, I’m surprised CUM has the time to also be the Red Sox mascot…

This is not how you breakdown a playoff game.

Gimmie the Sox to advance tonight. frick the Yankees. A Yankees Sox wild card game in Fenway tonight though, will be tuning in.

do you think the next coaching staff will keep you on as Chief Propagandist?

yikes, how bad is that red sox staff? no wonder no one was scared of either 2 getting in

I’d say Red Sox are fricked but LeMahieu being out definitely evens the playing field. However, Cole >>> Eovaldi so I’m going Yankees.
Doesn’t really matter cuz either 1 will probably get swept by TB.
