re: Braves trade Yunel Escobar to Jays

I apparently was giving Yunel too much credit, it appears he was a true cancer.
If that's the case, I'll give Wren credit for keeping it under wraps so it didn't get out and teams know that we were desperate to ship him out of town. Wish we would have traded him this past offseason, but that's hindsight and I'm sure they wanted him to turn around his attitude more than anyone.
Here's hoping Gonzalez plays well for us this 2nd half.

I only read page 1, so a lot of this could've been already said, but here's my take:
I sort of like this trade. Don't love it, don't hate it. I really really liked Yunel until this year, and now that he's gone, I think we're hearing that he was even more of a clubhouse cancer than anyone on the outside initially thought (maybe this is just saving face for us, who knows?). I'm a little worried about our SS situation for the future, I know we've got Salcedo (sp?) who seems fairly solid, but can't pin out entire hopes on him.
I am pretty excited about getting this Collins kid. I know we've got LH bullpen for days, but you can never have enough - or at least it gives us some good chips to deal with in the future.
Hopefully AGon can play somewhat like he has so far - I don't see Yunel turning it around this year. And while TF isn't as friendly of a park for hitters, AGon will be moving from AL pitchers to NL pitchers, which could make things a bit easier on him.
And lastly, don't think for a second that this being Bobby's last year didn't play into this. We're going to go balls to the wall to win this year, and will worry about the future later. I would be somewhat surprised if this is the last deal we make this month.

i think yunel is going to turn it around this second half. he was batting south of .200 before he raised it to .238-.240ish.
only asking, but shouldn't centerfield be more of a concern? or atleast next priority.. if any other move is needed?

Like what? Name a good, everyday SS that we could have gotten for him plus two prospects?
I think the Braves made the best move they could.
we could have raped a team for yunel last season
yunel would have landed us peavy a year or two ago when he was on the market. he carried huge value, and we sold low.
again, i understand the cancer issue with him, but still would have liked to have gotten more.

Why don't you drive your Delorean on over to Atlanta and you and Frank can set the flux capacitor back a couple of years and take a ride.

not last season. 2 years before when peavy was on the market
not the point, and sinec carl is being a dbag, i wont bother with him. but regardless of what ANYONE thinks about this trade, the absolute FACT is that we sold low. plain and simple
and again, wtf is so hard to realize about me saying i like moving him from a cancer point of view, i mean goddamn, its like some of yall pick and choose what you see and only respond to that. fricking women...

If he was a cancer and the entire clubhouse was done with him then all other opinions and stats and shoulda-coulda-wouldas don't matter

What anybody could have gotten for anybody 2 years ago is completely irrelevant.

1) you're wrong
2) methinks you don't know what the word "fact" means

So you like the trade and you don't like the trade. Make up your fricking mind.

Thought you Braves fans may enjoy McCann's take on Chuckles Manuel..
Charlie Manuel said he spoke to the National League team before Tuesday's All-Star Game to stress the importance of home-field advantage in the World Series. Whether Manuel's Phillies capture the pennant for a third straight season or not, one club will benefit from the NL's triumph.
But this was, after all, still an exhibition game.
"I don't know if they heard me or not," Manuel said.
Apparently Brian McCann did. The Atlanta catcher came up with the biggest hit of the 81st All-Star Game, a three-run double in the seventh inning. The NL won, 3-1.
"It was awesome," McCann said of Manuel's pregame pep talk. "He's the best. He's a great manager. I'm fortunate to play against him all the time. He's a great hitting guy, so I like to talk to him."
Gonna be some fun scrambled races to watch in the NL East and AL East the rest of the way.

you keeping saying this, but basically you are the only person, including scouts, executives, teammates... who think we sold low. everyone else thinks we universally won this trade hands down and are surprised we got what we did.
was yunel's value higher last year? shite yeah. but big papi's value was crushing in 2004, but they wouldn't get near the same for him now. things change. he's not worth nearly as much as you seem to want to believe... he's a 27-year-old with a great glove and an above average bat...

who plays the second thinnest offensive position in the majors
i just think its nuts that people really think that
a - yunel will keep hitting like shite
b - gonzalez will keep raking like he has
c - that this shite really fricking matters bc its clear that the trade was made bc of attitude problems

I'm with him although most of you already knew that
we may have won this trade, time will tell. That'll depend on Gonzalez's production the next two years and how our prospects continue to grow
but Yunel's stock can't get any lower than it is right now, which means we sold low. Maybe his value doesn't get much better, but it still can't drop anymore
In return, A Gon's stock can't get any higher than it is right now, so we also bought high. But at least got two prospects to go along with that.
Time will tell how this trade works out for both the Braves and Jays
