i just think its nuts that people really think that

a - yunel will keep hitting like shite
b - gonzalez will keep raking like he has
you do realize that players go through:

a:season long slumps
b:season long hot streaks

so you're equally as nuts to assume that yunel will rake in the 2nd half and AG will suck

Im ready for this topic to die too

but Yunel's stock can't get any lower than it is right now, which means we sold low.

please. he's 27. let's say we hypothetically keep him. he continues to not hit, finishes the year in the .230-.240 range with all other stats about where they are.

who wants him then? going into next year he's a 28 year old coming off the worst year of his career that has attitude problems.

we may not have dealt him at optimum time/price, but his value still could have plummeted even lower.

I'm failing to see how this is "selling low" honestly. We essentially got 3 players, a solid big leaguer, and two plus prospects, for a malcontented middle-aged SS mired in the worst year of his career... that no one wanted on the team.

I'm not saying Alex Gonzalez is a better player than Escobar. I'm saying that Alex Gonzalez is a better player for this team than Escobar.

Of course it would have been nice to use him to get a better hitter (say, Josh Willingham), but then we'd have no SS, unless you really want to risk sticking Infante there and enduring his shitacular defense.

So I see it as we got a serviceable vet and two guys with upside in exchange for a guy who has a) Likely peaked last year and b) Wasn't liked and c) a dead weight pitcher.

I think there's a good chance Yunel starts hitting better. For one, this may be the best way to motivate a guy like Yunel. Two, for all his faults he's a solid hitter generally.

But I thought he had broken out of it a while ago, when he went from sub .200 up to .240 or so fairly quickly but then he just went straight back to not being able to hit. So who knows, he may just continue to suck.

again.. short stop was not the issue.. outfield is.. especially centerfield.. but now short stop will be an issue for the future.. as well as first base.. as well as 3rd base.. thank God for Prado.. the rest of the infield is fricked..

i hate the trade.. but i'm sure gonzalez will be adequate for the remainder of the season.. but the whole escobar was hurting the team is beyond me.. the team was in first place.. he was turning it around since his injury.. i am just not a believer in making moves to be making moves..

his average was .180ish at one point.. before he got dealt he raised it to just about .240..

he was always hitting the ball. he rarely ever strikes out.

don't look now.. but he is right around .250ish and climbing..

there was a point in the season when mccann was struggling mightily.. before raising his back to .260

my point is that career high average hitters turn it around at one point.. mccann/escobar.. but see guys like nate mclouth are 1 year wonders imo.. and they don't usually turn it around..

The move was made because Yunel was universally disliked in the clubhouse. There were a lot of reports that Glaus was close to taking a swing at him after Yunel made that lazy throw and nearly got Troy's arm broken. Bobby never liked him because he was lazy and didn't play hard. The pitchers were getting fed up with his lapses of concentration on defense. He was basically Manny Ramirez but without the talent to justify putting up with the bullshite.

He had 2 extra base hits playing every day in the last month before being traded.

It was on the radio in Atlanta. They said that after that game Glaus was yelling at him in the locker room and had to be restrained.

FWIW, I'd bet on Escobar being the most valuable "WAR" player in the deal when all is said and done. But I have a feeling Gonzalez will be serviceable this year. I'd also bet that if in 5 years you combine Salcedo and Collins WAR that it will be higher than Escobar and Jo Jo.

I highly doubt that

I'm sure he was upset with him. Anyone would be. But in the dugout you could clearly see he was more upset about Frenchy throwing his elbow at him
