One weird thing about the trade is that the Angels staff had the lowest GB% in MLB last year. Doesn't really play to Simmons' strength.

Don't worry, I'm sure we'll ship him out for a new washing machine and an 18 year old closing pitcher who won't ever make it further than AA.

I'm waiting for the announcement that we've sold all of our players into slavery in Qatar for cheap construction materials and cash for the new stadium. We may not have a team on the field, but it sure will look pretty from all those apartments and restaurants

They want to change that.... The Angels are a poorly constructed team.

I think this offseason they go after Zimmerman, Price, Greinke, and more and try to sign 2 pitchers.

Braves are dead. Freddi and management has run them to the ground. Why the hell Freddi is even still employed is beyond me. Hope they feel like asses seeing Maddon at the Cubs and Mattingly at the motherfricking Marlins

Haha dumbass. Why do you think the Cubs, Mets, and Royals are successful now. They built up their farm systems, stock piled pitching prospects for their own good or as trade assets for the future. Simmons was a 250 career hitter, never hit more than 7 bombs in a year. His trade value is at its highest right now. The Braves have a couple of SS prospects in the farm. So, all the Braves fans that say the Braves are dead to me or frick the Braves are idiots. You are the reason why the fan base gets ridiculed constantly. It's a great trade if you don't like it GFY and be a Nats fan.

You're not seriously comparing the Cubs recent farm of future all stars all over the field with the Braves' 50 pitchers.

Yes John Lester, Jake Arrieta, Kyle Hendricks, and Jason Hammel were drafted....

Same with Volquez, Vargas, Medlen, C. Young, Guthrie, and Cuerto...

You know what we can do with those prospects? Flip some of them for a 3B and C who are under team control. This is not the end of the offseason. It's the very beginning.

Freddi is simply there to ride out the final season(s) of Turner Field. Once this season is over, the Braves will release Fredi and we will bring in a new manager and most likely some new coaches as well. There will be an entirely new organization that steps on to the field at SunTrust Park. I am somber on the upcoming '16 season, but excited for the future beyond. Simmons was a guy that could never find a spot in the lineup because he was so inconsistent with his bat. If you look at his approach at the plate, he drops to his knee 2-5 swings because he thinks he has HR power. We honestly made out like bandits in this deal, and anyone who can't see that just doesn't understand that you need to be a fan but understand this is a business.

well if you build a solid foundation you can afford to spend in free agency on an ace

I agree that the Braves should have hoarded position players rather than pitchers, but their collection of pitchers is very impressive from a value standpoint.

You should definitely be able to get 5 cost controlled ML starters and a few quality position players via trade from Miller, Teheran, Wisler, Folty, Newcomb, Jenkins, Allard, Toussaint, Fried, Sims, Soroka. That is an absurd list of arms from a value perspective.

Or maybe we could trade them for even more pitching prospects, or for draft picks so we can draft even more pitchers. If nobody scores on us we can't lose I guess.

Simmons is vastly overrated by Braves fans. Exceptional fielder but terrible hitter. We got a lot back for him. All those arms we have will be traded for position players.

Simmons is a very good player, obviously a generational defender. I do not think this was really a necessary trade or one I would have made but I don't think it's too far off value wise.
