Brady: Montana is the GOAT

quote:
“I don’t agree with [the argument he’s surpassed Montana] and I’ll tell you why,” Brady said. “I know myself as a player. I’m really a product of what I’ve been around, who I was coached by, what I played against, in the era I played in.
to Brady for recognizing the truth, that the era he has played in has benefited him tremendously.

Self awareness is a great quality to have.

Half the posters here will now cry.

Then stop talking about chasing Jordan as greatest team player evar. I like Brady and certainly recognize his accomplishments, but this quote is dead on, imo. Humility is much more admirable than pomposity.

It's not Brady's style to say otherwise. He always deflects any praise and gives everyone credit but himself. Classy player

He's just being modest.

I am a brady hater, and the debate for GOAT will always be. There will never be a true GOAT because there is no standard that says you must have these stats, or win this many rings to be the GOAT. But for brady, to be considered in the talk, that is all you can really ask for in a career. When all is said and done, if your name is brought up in GOAT discussions, what more can you ask.

Yeah, there has never been a Jordan-like figure in the NFL and there likely never will be.

I think there are at least a couple of guys in each generation that you could put in great situations and they would have at least somewhat comparable success. When you factor in rules and trends in the game it becomes even more cloudy. But the MSB and ESPN love their hot take comparison topics.

Why?
Well, it implies that you've already accomplished it in your sport.

So why should he stop chasing?
ETA: Most importantly, Brady never said he was chasing Jordan for greatest team player of all time.

although I agree that Montana may be the greatest of all time, I much preferred playing against him than steve young. I hated when that fricker took off running for the first down.

That's a very mature perspective.

Have to disagree with Tom on this.
