Wasn't that a different situation, like Eli just didn't want to play there? They never even got to negotiations, correct?

The Chargers need to trade his rights to the Browns

I don't know, but Chargers are the common denominator

Right. Rumor was Archie didn't like the organization or didn't want Eli and Peyton in the same conference or whatever the case may be and the Eli camp told SD that he just wouldn't play for them and not to draft him. And they did it anyway. But it was actually pretty clever because they got more out of it in the trade with New York than if they had just passed. Agreement to trade immediately after the pick I believe.

He was traded on draft day. I'm pretty sure Archie was adamant about not wanting to deal with their FO

The deadline to trade him has passed

So how specifically did they get their reputation at that point?

And the chargers lose out on #3 pick capital and the 5th year option
THIS. Bosa being a mid-late 1st rounder next draft is way better for him than the Chargers completely wasting the #3 pick.

The Chargers have had 28 1st round draft picks since Alex Spanos purchased the franchise in August of 1984. Of that group, the following 1st round rookies missed part or all of training camp due to contract disputes: 1985 #12: Jim Lachey. 1986 #8: Leslie O'Neal and #13: James FitzPatrick. 1987 #24: Rod Bernstine. 1989 #8: Burt Grossman. 1990 #5: Junior Seau. 1991 #9: Stanley Richard. 1998 #2: Ryan Leaf. 2001 #5: LaDainian Tomlinson. 2002 #5: Quentin Jammer. 2004 #4: Philip Rivers (via trade). 2005 #12: Shawne Merriman. 2008 #27: Antoine Cason. 2009 #16: Larry English. 2010 #12: Ryan Mathews. 2011 #18: Corey Liuget. 2016 #3: Joey Bosa.

It should also be noted the Chargers had no 1st round draft picks from 1994-2000, excepting 1998. In summary, 17 of 28 1st round picks involved in a contract dispute (about 61%) which resulted in time missed from training camp.

At this point I hope the chargers draft him again

Bosa just let Deangelo Russell off the hook for most hated OSU player right now.

From everything I'm seeing, this isn't on him.

I think one has to conclude that this is a San Diego problem, not a Bosa problem.

Right. The Chargers are taking a hard line and going against what is typical for every other top 3 pick since the last collective bargaining agreement. This hasn't been an issue before because the Chargers haven't picked this high since the new CBA. The chargers seem to apparently be the least player friendly front office in the league.

At least there are a few smart people here.

You aren't one of them. The Chargers want Bosa to do something that no other top 3 pick has ever done and it only benefits the Chargers. The league agreed to the new rookie wage scale. The Chargers want even more than they agreed to. They want to defer signing bonus payments, limit Bosa to were if he is cut or traded they will be off the hook for any of his salary, etc. etc. It's ridiculous and solely the fault of the organization. Read this for more info and stop being so ignorant. LINK

I wish the NCAA would allow him to return to Ohio State on the basis he repays any earnings since declaring. The Bosa brothers on the same defensive line would be tremendous.

renter the draft next year.
Perfect opportunity for the next team to low ball him. I mean, no way he sits out TWO years, right.

If the Chargers are truly in the wrong here, have to think agents around the league will take notice and actively avoid their players being drafted there.
