lovie smith could be a DC or assistant head coach somewhere if he wanted to be. they're not going for the same jobs

But of course. Why hire a black guy who's better for your team when you can just get a white guy instead?

I know you really believe that to be the case. That's sad.

That sentence right there speaks volumes (and I don't give a rat's arse one way or the other about Sharpton or Jackson . . .they seem to get under your skin, however).

Not intentionally, but do you seriously believe that none of the 32 owners think black people are inherently less qualified?

And given the amount of head coaching turnover the past few years, it's obvious that these genius billionaires made a lot of bad hiring decisions.

Lovie Smith has basically let it be known that he's fine with not coaching while getting paid 5 million this year. I'm sure he'll be one of the hotter names for head coaching spots next year.

He didn't deserve to get fired, but I seriously doubt he will ever be a "hot name" -- aside from Rooney interviews

they may have this general opinion, but when it comes down to it, i doubt they'll ignore the best candidate if he's black

Crennel and Lovie have both been coaches in the league for a while now. It's not like they were token hires and then let go after one season. Crennel hasn't been incredibly successful lately. Lovie, as was said, was ready to take a year off. Maybe the Titans didn't see him as a good fit for their defense. Who knows? I don't see any secret NFL conspiracy here.

Here's the deal. It may not be "intentional" racism (whatever that means) in most cases, but the network is skewed in favor of the familiar . . . and that pretty much means white. The success rate in hires of head coaches based upon what the owners/GM's are familiar with, if we can decide on a way to measure it, is not that great I suspect.

it's definitely an incestuous network. And that does prevent outsider candidates from getting a fair shot.

recently young "up and comers" have been the hot names. this includes underqualified young black head coaches too (rahim fricking morris)

they're all outside of the "network" and are the opposite of familiar

Lovie had no idea how to manage an offense. The Bears had hit a ceiling with him on both sides of the ball. He'll get hired soon, probably as a coordinator

You sure are hung up on race and you want to point fingers.

It's always whitey's fault with you. It's time you get called out.

I will say that it was bs that Hue Jackson got fired, but that was on the Raiders so that was more a product of an insane franchise than prejudice

I've always hated the tendency in sports to favor the retread coaching hire, as well. Of course, the bitching here seems to be about not looking at black guy retreads.
