Are they waiting for some report from the hospital? If he has died I think the game would be cancelled. If he is alive I think they would try to play. This seems like a we don't know if he is alive or not yet scenario.

That's what came to mind for me. I heard about this happening when I worked at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Severe head trauma can lead to a life-threatening arrhythmia as well.

“Situation has risen to the point” tells me it’s bad enough that some players are refusing to play. There’s no way I could go out and try to make tackles for three hours knowing a guy I was close with just died on the fricking field.
