I'll grant you that Carroll would be at USC, but Kiffin would have found another job within 2 years if he had stayed at Tennessee.

I doubt it. USC was the only college job he was leaving for. And I don't think he would have had an NFL offer.

What if Tyson doesn't loss to a 40/1 underdog opponent like Buster Douglas?

Not much changes.

Tyson's fate (career-wise) was basically sealed when he fired Kevin Rooney and surrounded himself with yes-men who didn't know how to properly train him (and who tried to treat a cut with a water-filled condom). Tyson is crazy. Certifiably crazy. He needed a support system in place, and he needed parameters. After he fired the last link that he had back to Cus D'Amato and the system of Cus D'Amato, he had neither.

Even if Douglas stays down in the 8th round, Tyson still gets convicted of rape and comes back as a mediocre fighter.

And even if Douglas stays down in the 8th round and Tyson doesn't get convicted of rape, he would have lost to a mediocre fighter shortly after he lost to Buster Douglas.

As soon as he fired Rooney, the highly technical defensive style that allowed him to be very tough to hit -- even as a short fighter -- was not being reinforced, and was eroding. The Spinks fight was the last time we saw a properly trained Mike Tyson. Period.

Tyson was his own worst enemy. He could have been truly historically great. Even with Cus D'Amato dead, if the support system Cus D'Amato put in place for Tyson doesn't fall apart*, he wouldn't have lost...probably until Lennox Lewis (at which point, he would have been a bit too old (regardless of whether he was trained properly) to beat an in-his-prime Lewis).

Probably offensively, but when you throw in Griffey's 10 straight Gold Gloves, I think you have to give the nod to Griffey.

It's 10 times harder to play SS than it is to play CF and A-Rod was a great defensive shortstop.

I haven't gotten a chance to read the whole thread but tried to search to make sure this wasn't brought up already.

What if The MLB didn't strike in the 1994 season? Could Gwynn have finished above .400? and other what ifs?

What if Saban doesn't leave LSU? A decision that would have potential impacts on LSU, Alabama, Dolphins and Saints. Three of the four teams would go on to win championships because of the decision.

I think about this every day. LSU would have 4 more Championships!

What if Cecil "the diesel" Collins had a brain and stayed at LSU for 4 years?

He would've been a college football legend. i.e. Herchel Walker.

How many Super Bowl titles would the Chargers have if they weren't giving them all away to other franchises.

What if that fan hadn't caught that foul ball and it was an out instead?

What if LSU beats Auburn in 2006? Would they still have lost to Florida?

What if Peterson is called in-bounds on the interception at Alabama in 2009?

What if Lee or Mett started the second half against Alabama in the title game?

What if the Red Sox didn't trade Babe Ruth to the Yankees?

What if the Saints hadn't traded away their whole draft for Rickie Williams?

What if the Saints benched Aaron Brooks for Jake Delhomme when he was hurt?

What if Minnesota never traded all those draft picks to get Herschel Walker?

What if Herschel stayed for his senior season?

Hardest hitting game I think I've ever seen.

That the game where Jamarcus fumbled at the goal line? I think yall had 5 fumbles right? LSU was the better team, but the better team doesn't always win and when you turn it over that much, a lesser team can get the win.

The next week DMAC nutted all over Auburn.

What if Petino and the Celtics, who had the best odds with two top lottery picks, actually got the number one overall pick in 1997?

Astros had the best team in baseball that year. Bagwell gets a second MVP and Stros win the series.

Yup.

Also, I feel like we're losing sight of the OP here, biggest in sports history.
