That was an awful game plan by Wisconsin. Ball and Clay should have combined for 50 carries and played to their advantage.
Was at a bar owned by the brother of a former UW player that played in the NFL as well.
They said the same thing, as did everyone else. "Why the frick are we passing?"
eta-TCU never gave up a rush over 15 yards, before that game, as they never played a running team.

What I find interesting is 10 to 30 years ago there was much more variety in the top ten than there is recently.
K State with a chance at a NC? #3 Louisville losing to #14 Rutgers? WTF?
it's insane that only 10 years ago, this was the case. what do you mean bama, clemson, ohio state, oklahoma, georgia, and lsu weren't the only teams who could possibly win a national title?

The other what if for ‘98, if Michigan St doesn’t upset Ohio St, who gets picked for the BCS between Tennessee, KState, and Ohio St?
Ohio St and Tennessee since they both would've been undefeated.

Gotta be #2 WV against 3-8 Pitt in 07. 28 point favorite, at home, guaranteed spot in the BCS title game against a team they probably would've smashed.

Something we'll probably never see again (at least not in football, that is).

I've said for a long time the 4 team playoff has skewed recruiting.

No. Tennessee was leading 10-7 going into the fourth quarter. Kevin Prentiss returned a punt for a touchdown to put Mississippi State ahead 14-10 with a little under nine minutes remaining.
Your memory is better than mine and I was there. I thought that return was before the 4th.

No. Tennessee was ranked number one in the BCS poll going into championship Saturday. All they had to do was beat Mississippi state and they were guaranteed a place in the Fiesta Bowl regardless of what happened with Kansas state or UCLA.
maybe, I remember it being a crazy day. I like my revisionist version better.

That same day KSU lost their shot, UCLA lost their shot too by losing to Miami. What’s worse for them was that that game was played that weekend because a hurricane postponed the game from September.
If that game is played in September, UCLA plays the game with zero pressure and wins, and they’re already in the clubhouse with a perfect season that weekend. UCLA was also playing much better football that first half of the season.

UCLA's coach thought the humidity would no longer be a problem in December. Oops.

2007 WVU
We talk a lot about teams backing in to the championship or playoff but 2007 LSU REALLY backed in after losing 2 games and needing teams like WVU losing when they did, THANK YOU WVU!

90’s up until about 2010 was pure awesomeness for CFB.

Any true CFB fan knew that was a slippery slope that would lead to less parity.

It was more exciting that way. And they didn’t have to kill the golden goose to get blue bloods and brand names dominating the sport. Bama was going to rise to the top anyway. So was Ohio State.

I miss teams from all over the country being in the conversation in any given year. Maybe I am just nostalgic for the 90-00s but it just felt like there was a lot more depth than we have now.

Really needed the four team playoff that year
And? There are several years where we only need a title game (2005 Southern Cal & Texas). And there's several years where we need NO game (2011 LSU).
The four team playoff was just an excuse for others to make money off of college football while doing NOTHING positive for the sport and it's ultra loyal fans & supporters.
That and the transfer portal are why it really sucks now.

I never understood the need for a playoff, the old bowl alliance and the controversy over past mythical national titles and matchups that never happened are what made CFB great. Talking about the titles your team should/could/would have won was as fun as talking about the actual wins. Now it just feels like a minor league NFL.

it IS a minor league NFL complete with pay and moving from team to team. All of that to the detriment of the small market teams.

quote:Easily this. Not only was Alabama up 24-0, but they were about to go up 28-0 with 12:30 left in the half, but Antione Carter ran down Mark Ingram from behind and punched the ball out. Alabama only scored 3 more points for the rest of the game.
2010 Iron Bowl
Alabama was winning 21-0 after first quarter
Lost 28-27
If they win, Auburn may not make the championship game.
