They could just cancel "collegiate" sports at this point and I largely wouldn't care. Watching corporations and investment capital firms run semi-professional football through public universities is so fricking off putting.
"Oh come on, you would miss it if it were gone!"
It's already gone, and yes I miss it.

The schools can still go out and get their own jersey sponsors and they absolutely will because this deal is terrible. Most of the conference will end up with multiple patches. Kansas basketball will absolutely be able to get a patch deal that will bring in more than what this Monster deal with pay the school.

For 20 million a year split between all teams

They’re doing this, but you know who isn’t? My old high school and the Saints

[Wheeler] Kansas State AD Gene Taylor said he's seen mock-ups of the Monster Big 12 patch that will be on uniforms. Said they aren't as bad as the biggest skeptic might think. They are required to be the Monster green. The logo can't be changed to purple or white.

Beats losing if they get more studs on the field because of it.

1 mil might be good for half of what you need for a lone high caliber player in football and men's basketball. It's really only a good payout if they give it all to the women's basketball team, which they obviously won't.

Why the frick not, more money for each conference member.
SEC and b1g will be next. they just haven't hit their price yet. Oh wait, we had conferences who were going to sell their soul to investment firms and the fricking saudis for christs sake, and this bothers you???

For Monster it’s a Monster steal, a gigantic footprint in 10 states for 3/4 of the calendar year.

Yeahhh, if you’re gonna sell out you might as well sell high versus practically giving it away. That seems like a huge misjudgment on the big 12’s part, you would think they could’ve gotten way more from another sponsor.
(My opinion still holds that this is all fricking stupid either way. It’s tacky as hell. And it’s no longer the pure college sports we once knew, nor will it be again.)

So not only will teams in the Big 12 have Monster patches on their jerseys, teams will also have other ad sponsors on them as well. fricking yikes.

It wasn't that long ago Memphis offered $200m to join for 5 years, would have taken zero TV money, and would have given the Big 12 the right to vote them out after the 5 year trial if they created no value. They said no.
Now they are suddenly somehow so desperate for cash they willing to sell themselves to Monster Energy for an amount per team that won't even pay a single season of NIL for a starting QB.

They hired Yormark to do this and knew what they were getting. Other conferences to follow suit.
If fans put up with NIL and the portal they’ll put up with this and get used to it quickly like everything else. Sad, but that’s reality.

100%. Only real question is, will the SEC try to go classy and have a bank or an insurance company be the named sponsor, or are we going to get the Love’s Truck Stops Southeastern Conference? I don’t know which would be less offensive honestly.
