Big 12 Coaches Don't Care About Baylor's Head-to-Head Win

I know the Coaches' Poll doesn't mean much since it's no longer used to pick teams for post-season play, but I still find it interesting to see how coaches think.
Also, Art Briles ranked Alabama #4, making him the only coach to rank them out of the top 3. Mike Gundy ranked TCU #1 despite the fact that Gary Patterson only ranked his Horned Frogs #3.

Baylor coach Art Briles put his team No. 3, two spots ahead of TCU. Gary Patterson, coach of the Horned Frogs, did the opposite, putting his team two spots ahead of Baylor. That was expected.
What was not expected was everyone else from the Big 12 siding with Patterson. Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy made TCU his No. 1, with Baylor No. 3. Both Bob Stoops and Charlie Strong put TCU two spots ahead of Baylor as well.
Briles was the only Big 12 coach to put Baylor ahead of TCU, despite the fact Baylor had beaten the Horned Frogs. No other coach put the Bears within one position of TCU.

The coaches poll is and always has been a means to politic.

WTF was gundy thinking? Don't the final polls get released to the public...and he put TCU #1?
Or did I misread that and he had them #1 of the big 12 teams?

It's one big self-serving conflict of interest.

This in no way indicates that they don't care about the head to head win. It suggests that they might have appropriately considered it as 1/12 of their decision.

Not saying it is right but maybe he ranked the top teams based on their best wins. If he did that I can see Bama being 4. Not saying this is right though

No, you didn't misread it, he voted TCU #1 and Alabama #2. Only four coaches voted Alabama #3, while the rest voted them either #1 or #2. Here's the link to all 61 coaches' ballots:

lol at people get worked up over a meaningless poll.
Briles admitted that he has never voted in the coaches poll. always passes that off to an assistant or SID.

Briles is a whining liar. During the BCS era, I guarantee you that Briles looked over his final ballot before it went out, regardless of who filled it out, but it really doesn't matter since he volunteered to be a voter and he put his name on the ballot.

Briles certainly didn't care when he put Texas at #10 in 08.

Where did Saban rank Oklahoma State in 2011? It was low. People are forgetting that little tidbit while bashing Briles.
Why does anyone care what he does/says? He has every right to be mad. Him getting mad and making a big deal of it is what he SHOULD be doing right now. Voters will remember him next time and not punish him twice. That is how the system works. Whine until you get your way. Ask Saban. He is the master.
Briles would be dumb to NOT use this week to throw and ever loving fit. Tuberville did it over Auburn in 2004 for an entire offseason. Had rings made and everything. It worked out for the SEC.
It is the same as a coach yelling at a ref over a call AFTER the next play has happened. He is mad about that call, but he is also softening the ref up for the next time. He knows that the ref isn't going to screw him twice in a row and that there will be a makeup call coming. It is human nature. Briles is working the system. Why is anyone mad about that. He represents his 11-1 Baylor Bears, not anyone else.

I remember that. Saban was chicken****, but him voting Oklahoma State two spots lower than everybody else isn't what cost them a trip to New Orleans. What cost them was that 3/4ths of the coaches from the conferences other than the Big 12 and the SEC voted the Tide over the Cowboys. That really surprised me because I assumed that there would enough SEC resentment in the coaching fraternity for them to give the nod to Mike Gundy, especially considering the fact that Oklahoma State, who the computers favored, won its conference and played a tougher schedule than Alabama.

I'm shcoked -- SHOCKED!! -- that the AD's of Texas, OU, and Okie St hold a grudge against the program that filed an injunction to force the Big 12 to stay together and essentially blocked their move to the Pac-10.
I'm sure there's absolutely no bad feelings about that.

Yeah, petty politics have never come into play in voting, ever. How silly of me to think that. Everyone is totally on the level and harbors no ill will. I mean, no one even brings up the time Briles voted Texas so low it cost them a shot at a national title.

Saban put them 4th and Stanford 3rd.

Art is an old grizzly coot. All of the B12 coaches hate him. Same goes for their hoops coach (except the old grizzly part)
