Definitely 1989. Bro. Martin played Ruston at Ruston and won in triple OT in the semis. I was at that game and couldn’t believe Ruston lost. Ruston probably would have beat Ouchita in the dome. Ruston had a so-so night, but Bro. Martin came to play. My father, who never stays up past 10:30-11:00 said he didn’t fall asleep until 3 or 4 that night. Couldn’t get it out of his head.

1990 Ruston is the right answer. Running the good ole Wing T and they could pass out of it too. Amazing offense with a defense that didn’t give up points.

I think the final score in the state championship game was 52-10 and it wasn’t even that close

However, Raymon Malcolm played for the 1990 Ruston team. I had a close up view of him running over our defense in the dome that year.

Me too.

You wouldn’t happen to have been an offensive lineman (center specifically) on that team whose initials are TB or DM?

That was the correct score and it wasn’t.

I was there on the opposing sideline

No that context is completely wrong. I was the nose guard on the Catholic team. We were not supposed to be there. We were the biggest of underdogs. There was no talk of any thing like you "recall". The true story is interesting enough without you making up stuff.

That was the score. I played every defensive snap for Catholuc that day as sadly there were a lot.

I’m not making anything up. I’m from north La and remember the papers saying that. Maybe y’all were underdogs, but there was plenty of talk about the game all over and how it should be a good one. I graduated the year before

catholic was good but not even ranked at seasons end. Ruston and Shaw were 1-2 pretty much all year and ouchita and Neville were in top 5 all year. Shaw was upset by Thib (one of Shaw’s most talented teams ever but best player had serious issues that week)

Several key upsets and injuries for some teams played a huge role.

I may very well be remembering wrong then, I didn’t go to Ruston high. That’s been a few years ago. Could have been a different team playing Ruston that had a great offense during the playoffs.

My vote for the best team was the 1990 Ruston Bearcats

That fall I spent one quarter at LA Tech and they would get my vote.

I know, but I don’t think it was quite every snap. I was there with you. 3rd on the depth chart at NG behind CL. He and I both got at least a couple of snaps.
