Someone told me today that the Saratoga course is where favorites come to die.

I spent Wednesday at the track. Had a fun experience and great weather. Would come back for race season.

One of Saratoga’s nicknames is the “graveyard of favorites”. A lot of that comes from when Secretariat lost there.

only 9 horses? triple crown needs to take back control and put in place some rules to keep the shite exciting.

Horse racing is dead. When the Kentucky Derby skips a race, the regulars tune out. They need to stretch out the time of each race or it'll be more of the same

So I learned. I think I counted that all ten of the morning favorites lost on Wednesday. The winner of the first race, a steeplechase, had won it the previous two years but still wasn't the favorite. Two riders lost their mounts in the race.

It was a waste this year anyway, not racing at Belmont and not racing the Belmont distance. Can’t blame Golden Tempo for sitting out the Preakness when it wouldn’t have been a true Triple Crown anyway

The answer she just gave in the interview indicates maybe so. I still think the Derby and Preakness need an extra week of separation; Golden Tempo may have run then.

Just glad that Belmont Park returns to host this race in 2027.

Golden Tempo was a Triple Crown talent. Huge blunder not to try.

Takes a unique horse with great stamina to run all three races. Because of his racing style of coming off the pace and running last the horse extends a lot of energy to win the derby.
Trainer and owners no there is a great risk to run again in Preakness.
They probably know they made the right decision

Agreed. Hope she doesn’t go to her grave regretting that decision.

Would have been lame to have a triple crown winner win it not at Belmont Park so I’m alright with it
