Now hearing that the Saints may move to Pass Christian makes more sense now...

I remember those rumors from years ago...

Crazy, but definitely in play nowadays for these owners.

If you own the building as well as the team that is how you profit, if you just own the team you don't make shite.

Look I get the NFL loves new stadiums and maybe I am just old fashioned but I much rather see a game in any old school college stadium then new age NFL stadiums

Green Bay is only team at this point with any balls

That’s potentially why they’re not going to Arlington Heights, but that’s not why they’re leaving the city limits of Chicago. They were always going to a place where they could own a lot of land for cheaply.

Exactly. I've tried getting this point across in previous Bears stadium threads, but staying in the city wasn't a viable option to them. They've explored building their own stadium in the suburbs for over 50 years.

George Halas always intended for Soldier Field to be a temporary solution after the Bears were forced out of Wrigley. Every time they found a place they wanted, they hit political road blocks. George McCaskey wants to end this decades-long cycle now.

It seems the renovation of Soldier Field that made it into the spaceship it is today was just a couple of years ago. Google says it was 2002-03. Jeez time flies.

The original Soldier Field renovation loan was for $399 million and after 25 years the total remaining cost is roughly $534 million to $589 million.

OUCH.

You don't think it's because of the taxes in the city/state? I would think it has almost everything to do with the city

Biggest issue is ownership of the stadium (which they don't have with Soldier Field) and being able to develop the surrounding area, which is why they blew $200,000,000 on the big site in Arlington Heights. Kevin Warren is an abject failure in just about every position he's ever had and keeps getting sweet gigs.

Didn't the Bears spend a ton of money on purchasing a horse race track outside Chicago a few years ago for this purpose?

I used to love going to Arlington a couple times of year to bet on the horses. Was an easy metra ride while drinking a few beers, and the grounds were beautiful.

I like everything about the organization, but they're the way they are by necessity, not by choice.

If a billionaire owned Green Bay they'd do the same shite. They also wouldn't be in Green Bay

Where is the site in Hammond? If the site is accessible from the Indiana Toll Road (I-90) or 80-94 it could be easier to get to for many fans from the burbs in a way. But traffic can be so horrible on 80-94 and the Tri-State it could be a nightmare on game days.

2 of your examples are in same state at least.
1 other is stateless.

Kevin Warren was always a meh hire, but I think the local media is unfairly dragging him for buying Arlington before doing "due diligence" on infrastructure costs and political maneuvering.

If I remember correctly, there were 6 or 7 other bids on the land besides the Bears. And there was a deadline for all bids to be in. Warren was specifically hired to get a stadium deal done and actually obtaining land was the most difficult obstacle for the Bears in the past.

If Warren hadn't jumped on Arlington, and lost it to another developer, he would've gotten roasted for that, and possibly taken the Bears to Indiana already.
