I'm watching Sportscenter and they show highlights from the Tigers game.

Miguel Cabrera apparently strained his hamstring or something. Why does ESPN say, "...scary moment for Detroit!..."?

He strained his fricking hamstring. He will be fine. It's not "scary".

Also, I sometimes think baseball players are the weakest athletes, and I love the game. It's just laughable how much time these guys miss throughout a season for the smallest "injuries". Not saying Cabrera's is lame. Just in general.

Why am l an idiot? I JUST said I wasn't saying his injury isn't legit. I said it's not "scary".

A "scary" injury to me is more along the lines of a pitcher being hit in the head with a line drive.

It's a scary moment for the team.

No different than when they say "Scary moment for the Lions as Matthew Stafford was slow to get up."

Or

"Scary moment for the Pelicans as Anthony Davis comes down awkwardly."

It's said all the time about star players, not just baseball players.

As far as you essentially calling baseball players pussies. 162 games takes a toll on the body and little injuries can nag for a long time such as a hamstring, or broken bone in the foot or hand.

Playing 162 games in 180 days is no joke

It's scary because Detroit kind of sucks right now. Here's the official report from BBT:

@BBTN: Tigers expect Miguel Cabrera to go on the disabled list with a strained calf he suffered tonight. It would be the 1st DL trip of his career.

They didn't know the extent of the injury right when it happened, how is that not scary for the team with that player in particular?

Also, they play like 27 days a month or something, of course they'll miss games for smaller injuries compared to other sports, isn't that logical?

I can agree in principle with the OP.

Baseball players pull a hamstring trying to beat out a bunt, twist an ankle rounding second and head to the DL for weeks.

Football players pull hamstrings will miss whatever number of plays it takes to retape their leg and theyre back in.

It's almost like football players value playing in games because there are less of them in a season!

Or fb players have a week to recover between games, many of times mlb players have less than 24 hours and the player might have to travel to a different city in that time span

The difference is that baseball movements are more muscle specific. IE, if a defensive tackle sprains his right wrist he's not gonna miss many plays while it gets some tape. A baseball pitcher cannot pitch with a sprain to his throwing wrist.

What's scary is you watching Sportscenter. Stay away from that crap. Go to MLB Network for highlights.

Grade 3 calf strain for Cabrera, according to Brad Ausmus. Expected to miss 6 weeks.

Doubt the Tigers are climbing back into the race without Cabrera.

It is a grade 3 strain (tear). That is a pretty serious injury.

I literally mad my skull crushed in. Weakly, I missed some time for that

the smaller injuries you're talking about are still debilitating for baseball activity. It doesn't mean they have to be in a wheelchair it just means they can't do their job properly.

A calf coming off the bone partially makes it tough for Cabrera to do his job well. Can you really not understand this?

Can't believe you did not pitch through that

He obviously does not understand that playing through an injury could lead to poor performance. Take a look at the Sean Doolittle shoulder injury. When he returned (albeit briefly), Doolittle was only touching 90 instead of his regular velocity. Would you want to throw a guy who would get shelled because his velocity was down due to his shoulder not being 100%?

Doolittle was one of the premier relievers in 2014 with an absurd 10 or 11 K/BB ratio, but 80% of Doolittle (or whatever level he returned to) is not worth it if he will not pitch well. There is not a point in playing through an injury if it will make the team worse.
