Andruw was arguably the best defensive center fielder since Mays
Jones was a great defensive CF no doubt. He also only has 1933 hits, .254 BA & a .337 on base. Only scored 100 runs 4 times. Wonderful player, great career not a HOFer

If Dale Murphy can’t, the bum Edmonds sure as shite ain’t getting in. Jones is arguably the best center fielder ever, next to Mays, get out here with this Edmonds bullshite, frick the Redbirds, best fans in baseball my arse!

Edmonds got gold gloves for making diving catches other cfs caught on the run.

He hit 434 homers. Are we just dismissing this? I like how you didn't include this.

As of late 2025, 59 MLB players have reached the milestone of 400 career home runs, with Mike Trout being the most recent to join the exclusive "400 Home Run Club" in September 2025. This list includes legendary sluggers like Babe Ruth, Mel Ott, and modern power hitters, marking a significant achievement in baseball history.
He's not just a great defensive player though, he's one of the greatest of all-time. I believe he's very much worthy of the Hall of Fame. I do remember watching him thinking yeah he's a Hall of Famer. He was special.

Plus how many of those with 400 are tied to steroids and to my knowledge Andruw has never been. Sure fire HOF career.

Jones was probably my favorite player growing up

Defense is a co-equal part of the game so it should be rewarded, it’s not all about offense.
Heads are going to explode when Yadi Molina goes in first ballot.

That Jones is in there and Murphy is not is a fricking crime.
The entire baseball HOF and the voters who make these decisions are a joke and don’t deserve any attention.

Offensive production for catchers is a completely different category than for outfielders though. Yadi absolutely deserves first ballot in my opinion.

Look I admire Murphy tremendously, I interviewed him a couple of times and he’s a great guy. I would not lead protest marches if he got in and in fact I would be happy to see him get in.
But if I had a vote … and I actually have cast Baseball Hall of Fame votes, long ago … I probably would not vote for him because baseball is still a sport that rewards longevity, and through no fault of his own, Murphy did not have longevity, he had a short, great peak in the 1980s but he was finished as an elite player at age 31 after his knees went to caca. And then he hung on for several more years when he really didn’t belong on a major league roster.
Don Mattingly is in the same boat, short, great peak in the 1980s then he ruined his back and he was no longer an elite player, although he didn’t fall off the cliff as badly as Murphy.
Koufax got in, rightfully, with a short, great peak in a truncated career. So did Dizzy Dean, although that was a different time. So did Kirby Puckett, although that was a mistake but at the time everyone loved Kirby, no one knew he was basically pond scum.
It’s not a sure thing that either Murphy or Mattingly was good enough long enough.

Beltran doesn’t have enough black ink (led the league in something) or gray ink (was among the top 10 individual leaders in something) for my tastes, but I just saw that he was one of only six players in the 157-year history of the major leagues to finish with 2,500 hits, 300 home runs and 300 stolen bases so I guess he has that going for him. The main reason he probably got in is that analytics love him because he walked a fair amount and didn’t hit into a lot of double plays (those are two things that go into compiling the dreaded WAR).

It’s about fricking time. It’s a travesty it took this long for Andruw to get in. One of the greatest defensive players of all time, not just centerfielders. 400+ home runs is just icing on the cake.

Ultimate troll job by Beltran would be to go in as an Astro
I mean, his career highlight is his 2004 postseason with the Astros, which was an all time great performance through the division and league championship series.

Edmonds:

Sorry the truth hurts, Edmonds was a better baseball player whether he gets in the hall or not. You definitely can't stump for Murphy and say Edmonds isn't worthy.
