He probably wants to enjoy his last few years of decent health somewhere other than stuck in Alabama and on a sideline. He should go see the world.

NIL was the end of Nick, his backups were a top 5 team, paying them not to play at other schools. No one leaving early to go pro etc. He's a fraud.

He’s a huge pussy. NIL took his advantages away so he runs. When things aren’t easy for him, he bolts. Did the same with the NFL.

Honestly it’s probably a confluence of the schedule getting tougher, his qb being trash, and this NIL bullshite.

so you think being 73 next season had nothing to do with it? haha i think the man should enjoy doing something besides football in his waning years

Seeing a lot of posts like this. Holy shitballs you are a moron.
More like the dude has been at the top of his profession for 20+ years and is ready to retire from the grind and enjoy what’s left of his life.
But keep calling him a quitter and a pussy if it makes you feel like a tough guy.

Just like Pro Football. When the playing field gets leveled…Saban bolts like a bitch.

To Above. Yea, he is a great recruiter, and beat an arse load of teams with superior talent. When you line up and have better players at every position, you should win most of them.

He was the domino to stop the 9 team SEC schedule then he bolts before Texas and Oklahoma join anyway.

When it's November, you do not want to see Mercer sitting there on your schedule. You hope they call to cancel, or let a bleeder take the game.

All hell runs loose when that Mercer bands begins to fire up on a chilly November afternoon

You’re right that his path to natties is harder now. At the same time, the man is over 70 years old and has to deal with NIL/portal stuff, on top of regular recruiting and an expanded conference and playoff. With him retiring and Harbaugh likely off to the NFL it feels like the end of an era that we’ll never return to. I don’t know how anyone over the age of 65 is going to have the energy to be a head coach in this new era. Not saying it’s likely to happen, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Riley or Kiffin bolted to the NFL at some point in the future.
