To preserve their RPI, I assume. Cancelled with Samford this week and UAB for next. Samford's website says the cancellation was at Alabama's request and not weather or Covid related.

Is this common for teams on the bubble?

Alabama cancelled because they’re out of arms. Injuries have plagued the pitching roster most of the year. They’ve only gotten two games out of a potential first round pick in Connor Prielipp.

Cancelling Samford was dumb. I think we've scored 40 runs on them the past two games combined.

I’d rather play the games. But definitely not at the cost of burning the arms that they have left. Need those for any chance of making a regional.

We have 17 pitchers on the roster. I know a couple are hurt, but it's ridiculous to cancel a midweek single. I can see not wanting to play both Tuesday & Wednesday.

I have never heard of any team, in any sport, in any league, at any level, being able to cancel certain scheduled games at their own free will, whether it be to preserve their ranking, their pitchers, or any other bogus reason.

What a crock of horseshite.

Perfect reason LSU needs to work them over next week

Teams can actually do this?

Happened a decent amount in Louisiana HS soccer this year. Coaches typically used the COVID excuse as cover, but make no mistake high ranked teams were cancelling on lower ranked teams to not take the power ranking hit at the end of the year

I mean it was happening in college football in the SEC.

Florida ducked on the LSU game early in the season because of a ton of injuries, and then LSU ducked on Bama for similar reasons.

Both games were made up and both teams took an L, which was deserved.

As happy as I was to beat Florida, they wouldn't have had a team to field due to contact tracing. I think there was 10+ players/coaches with positive tests if I'm remembering correctly

I remember LSU having enough guys to play against Bama, according to SEC rules. I thought the same was true of Florida.

So the reason was COVID and they actually played the games in the end?

This isn't an apt comparison.

Making a regional? You still haven't nailed down a berth in the SEC tourney.

Agreed. Play the games. I’m sure there are walk-on and BP pitchers you could run out there. Not a fan of the move.
