hopefully there's some language in the contract that mandates a reschedule but who knows

Here comes another losing season with no bowl game for Nebraska.

There will be no bowl games and I doubt there will be a playoff either. If there is a season, the national champion will probably be voted #1 like they used to.

I can't say I'm that shocked too but figured even some non conference regional games would still be on the cards as backups due to the travel restrictions(i.e. Michigan vs Toledo)

Ya know I was actually thinking that earlier. Maybe we have split national champs in 2020

I know Notre Dame is aligned with the ACC but they could be left out in the cold al together soon

Cuts a lot of travel.

Yep. It's too dangerous for Maryland to make that 200 mile trip to Morgantown, WV. But that 700 mile trip to Chicago (Northwestern) is a-ok

In reality this is just foreplay to lube us up for the eventual cancellation

Exactly. This scenario almost mirrors what happened in college basketball. The Ivy League was the first to cancel their conf. tournament. The power conferences initially tried to move forward with theirs (albeit with restrictions) only to eventually cancel their tournaments as well.

There are too many powerful and vocal voices who are FULLY invested in keeping this farce going for as long as politically expedient all under the fallacy of "public health." Don't be naive people

Notre Dame playing the ACC makes a ton of sense.

I wonder what becomes of BYU in this scenario tho...

No. It's sad that a POLITICAL FARCE is going to cancel CFB. The virus is real. The necessity for this level of absurd overreaction is COMPLETELY fabricated

2027 - @Oklahoma

I'm not saying the P5 leagues would cancel their seasons because the Ivy League did. I'm saying that it gives the "shut it down forever" (or at least until Nov. 3rd) crowd fodder to try to apply pressure to the other leagues to do the same thing. The Ivy League was the first domino to fall in March with CBB. Here were are...4 months later...and they are again the first domino to fall in CFB. And just like with basketball, a DAY later a separate "power conf." announced restrictions.

yep. Even if they play it'll be a watered down version of the cfb experience. Will be like watching a spring game.

I understand why they are doing it (TV money) but it's gonna be a crappy product.

It's official

quote:

We are facing uncertain and unprecedented times, and the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, game officials, and others associated with our sports programs and campuses remain our number one priority.

To that end, the Big Ten Conference announced today that if the Conference is able to participate in fall sports (men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball) based on medical advice, it will move to Conference-only schedules in those sports. Details for these sports will be released at a later date, while decisions on sports not listed above will continue to be evaluated. By limiting competition to other Big Ten institutions, the Conference will have the greatest flexibility to adjust its own operations throughout the season and make quick decisions in real-time based on the most current evolving medical advice and the fluid nature of the pandemic.

This decision was made following many thoughtful conversations over several months between the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors, Directors of Athletics, Conference Office staff, and medical experts including the Big Ten Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Big Ten Sports Medicine Committee.

In addition, the Conference announced that summer athletic activities will continue to be voluntary in all sports currently permitted to engage in such activities. Furthermore, Big Ten student-athletes who choose not to participate in intercollegiate athletics at any time during the summer and/or the 2020-21 academic year due to concerns about COVID-19 will continue to have their scholarship honored by their institution and will remain in good standing with their team.

While Big Ten member institutions continue to rely on the most up-to-date medical information to establish the best protocols for voluntary workouts on their campuses, in compliance with local and state regulations, the Conference is working with the Big Ten Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Big Ten Sports Medicine Committee to finalize Conference-wide protocols.

As we continue to focus on how to play this season in a safe and responsible way, based on the best advice of medical experts, we are also prepared not to play in order to ensure the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes should the circumstances so dictate.

It's less about distance and more about control, they all fly private anyway. The big 10 schools can all agree on a best possible practice. They can't however make sure Toledo is doing the same

The Progs that run our universities NEED this to be cancelled in order to continue to make Americans feel the pain of voting for Trump.

Elect Brain Dead Biden in November, you get your normal life back.
