What about Michael Lorenzen?

I don’t know much about him, but the stats looks decent.

He used to bat with the Reds, played OF at times, and pitched. He would be an interesting pickup.

Last time I counted, 40% of our starts this year have been made by rookies and/or the AAA types.
It's amazing to me that we're this far out in first place with that staggering amount of rookie usage.
YEs - Elder got an opportunity and he's the right to stay in the rotation. He's been solid.
But to think we've had a comined 10 starts from Fried and Wright, and we've got the best record in baseball and an 11 game lead on August 1 is incredible.
Our championship window is now. Right now.
A Quality Starter increases our chances.
A high-leverage reliever does too.
We gotta go for it.

Most of the time, Strider is dominant, but he has that 1 inning that gets away from him and it changes his outting.
True, but that one inning has been the 7th lately, and he’s probably not seeing the 7th in the postseason if we can get another dominant back end bullpen guy.

I'll dance naked in my street if that were to happen.

Agreed.
I can only take him in small doses.
He is someone who truly lives his gimmick.

Wonder if Mike Bell was the personality that a-hole on here was listening to last week when talking about trading draft picks for Ohtani.

Any of y’all watch Jim Riley’s Ballcap Sports YouTube channel? Talks about potential trades and landing spots every day. He’s live streaming today through the end of the deadline.
Said he really likes the Hand trade for the Braves because we needed a LH bullpen guy since AJ Minter was our only one. Said Hand and Andrew Schaffen (?) were really the 2 most prominent lefty bullpen guys still available.
Also likes it because he was sure the Phillies were gonna bring him back, so that keeps him away from them. Also said not to get too caught up on his ERA because with the low innings relievers pitch, just 1 or 2 bad outings can jump their ERAs up by over a run in a week and not be a great indicator of how good they’ve been overall. Pitching in Coors obviously contributed to that.
“He can still throw. Brad Hand can still be an effective relief pitcher. Good job by the Braves bolstering that bullpen.”
“Brad Hand’s sweeper this year has an opposing BA of .227 and expected BA of .180.” I’m sure that includes against righties, so probably even better against lefties, and I’m sure he’ll mainly be used as a LH specialist to come in and get lefties out with men on base.

Depends on who the minor leaguers are, but why would they want major leaguers back if they’re selling, and why would the Astros give any up if they’re trying to compete? And a lot will depend on the money situation. How much are the Mets paying?
ETA—the Mets basically paid the Rangers for a top prospect in Acuna by paying so much of Scherzer’s salary. Verlander is under contract through ‘25, so if the Mets are picking up a lot of his salary too, they probably got some high end prospects from Houston.

See, the Astros gave up their #1 prospect in Gilbert. Since money is no object for the Mets, I kinda like what they’re doing here. Instead of letting the Rangers and Astros paying Scherzer’s and Verlander’s salaries and only getting a group of 4 or so lower lotto prospects, they’re picking up salary and grabbing their top guys that are closer to sure things.

Agree, if you don't care about the money anyway (and they don't) you might as well do this if you know you're out of it. Scherzer and Verlander are old anyway, who knows when they might tweak a shoulder or something and are never the same again. They've got a few studs either up or coming up already.

If Astro’s are paying all of JV’s contract it’s a good trade for the Mets
