Given how much AA values clubhouse chemistry
I think this is one of, if not the most overblown thing people say about AA. We have good clubhouse chemistry because we have a bunch of home-grown, young guys as our core stars and team leaders, most of whom weren't even guys AA drafted. His biggest acquisition (Olson) is well-liked but hes not a glue guy or anything by any means. He let our team captains walk 2 years in a row in free agency. If he thinks someone will help the team, he will bring them in. If he thinks a potential contract is bad, he will let someone walk, team chemistry be damned. And thats part of the reason hes a good GM, he isn't hung up on these antiquated ideas that letting someone walk is going to make people worse because it hurts 'team chemistry'.
The fact is most guys in baseball are pretty good dudes and are going to be fine in any clubhouse.
That said, I feel like you're still paying a higher price for Flaherty than what hes worth based on the guy he was a few years ago. But if the cost isn't high its worth a shot if we are just giving up a dart throw prospect.

it's not overblown at all. AA flat out says it in any interview where the topic of discussion is adding new players to the roster. He goes into a lot of detail about his process to ensure the players he's bringing in are the right ones. I think the only reason Ozuna is still with the team is because he's a great fit in the clubhouse. Between the bad press and the contract, I think he would have dumped him without thinking twice if it wasn't for the clubhouse influence.
He goes to great lengths to talk about how clubhouse/character wasn't a focus of his in Toronto and how it came back to bite them in the arse on several occasions.

There’s no one on the shitty farm that would cause me to lose sleep if traded but Grissom, AJSS, Alvarez, Schwellenbach, Phillips, Murphy, Dodd, Ritchie and Guanipa are the only tradable guys who are even more than lotto tickets to me.
Some teams have like 30+ guys better than the last few names on that list and most have at least 18-20.
This is how I feel. Those names you listed can't be throwaways in Odorizzi type deals, IMO, but I won't blink if they are used in meaningful deals. I think the only guys I'd like to see staying for sure are some of the recent international signings, and that's just because we were out of that market for so long that I think we need to try and develop them more to maintain system depth, but also to increase their value for more impactful trades in the future (or adding to the MLB roster down the road).

First off no need to attack man. I already said I forgot about the off the field stuff. Can’t we debate or talk about our favorite team without devolving into sophomoric name calling or bashing others? Be better.
you deserved it

Well if he says it, it must be true

I think the team would have dumped him if it weren't a total sunk cost if they did so. And I also think maybe they saw his struggles as a slump and not him just turning into a bad player, and rode those out. If Ozuna weren't making what he makes I'm pretty sure he would have been gone regardless of anything he might contribute to the clubhouse.

I value Tavarez more than Alvarez. Better hit tool.
Dodd doesn't belong in that group either.

08/01/23 Atlanta Braves sent RF Sam Hilliard on a rehab assignment to Gwinnett Stripers.
Anybody think Sam will be back in Atlanta? September call up?

Probably would replace Lopez or wall on the playoff roster, I would imagine

He definitely wouldn't replace Lopez (who would be replaced by Grissom if he isn't traded today), we're not taking three backup OF on the postseason roster.
As things stand right now before the deadline, Wall, Hilliard and Tromp are fighting for one roster spot.

I don't frequent this board often, but why tf does this guy post from his high-horse?

So your position is to ignore what people say, form your own opinion on the matter, and choose to argue that opinion as fact over someone's actual words. Got it.
For anyone who has paid attention to Anthopoulous interviews and media comments, he doesn't lie. He withholds information, but he doesn't lie. He has spent a lot of time talking about this aspect of roster building and he's not making that shite up.

Ozuna being deemed a sunk cost is exactly why they would have dumped him.

You're right, Sam Hilliard definitely moves the needle.

If the Twins are actually open to moving Sonny Gray like rumors suggest they are, I'd love to see AA get him.
Posted on 8/1/23 at 10:15 am to SouthMSReb
Kopech and Santos for Vaughn, Jared Shuster, and a lower A guy.

Have to think Hilliard would get it
Posted on 8/1/23 at 10:21 am to VADawg
I can’t see the twins moving sonny gray (why would they do that) but if so I would like the Braves to pursue one of these: Sonny gray, Dylan cease, E rod, Shane Bieber

You think he is just gonna say "Nah, I don't really care about the clubhouse culture" when asked? Obviously not. So yeah, in this particular instance I don't really read into what he says that much.
And I'm not saying he would bring in some blatant headcase who happened to be good at baseball either, but besides maybe Bauer who qualifies as that in the sport right now?
He already had most of this locker room built (or I guess pre-built) before he ever arrived. Most people in the sport are good teammates. He just isn't doing/hasn't done that much for the clubhouse culture no matter what he says or what you choose to believe.

Theres nothing to gain by dumping him at that point, and then if you dump him for performance when he was at his worst people would be asking why they didn't dump him after his domestic incident or the DUI.
